Hi all; I am torn between girls' names, and would greatly appreciate your input, so which two do you like best;

Ada May
Ada Grace
Ina Rose
Viola May
Alice May
Althea Rose

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Soloooo · 20/06/2018 18:31

Only like Alice

MikeUniformMike · 20/06/2018 18:38

They are all nice enough names, they just got dull from overuse.
I know a Sarah Jane who has a SIL called Sarah Jane, both use their married surnames but it's still confusing.

Jammycustard · 20/06/2018 18:41

Viola.

Fabricwitch · 20/06/2018 18:45

Ada May is my favourite, but they are all very sweet

bridgetreilly · 20/06/2018 18:58

In order, I like:
Ada
Ina
Alice
Viola
Althea

I don't love any of your middle names, though. My choice would be Ada Violet or Ina Alice.

Blondie87 · 20/06/2018 19:54

Love Ada!

RedDwarves · 20/06/2018 22:26

Alice May.

Cyberworrier · 20/06/2018 22:31

Ada May my favourite, also like look of Althea Rose but am sure I’d mispronounce Althea!

Blondemother · 20/06/2018 22:33

I’m reading a book with a character named Althea, I hadn’t heard it before and it’s really grown on me as the book has gone along. I think it’s gorgeous!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 20/06/2018 22:36

Ada Grace is lovely.
Not too keen on May as a second name.. theres a billion lily-may ellie-may etcs. Lovely names but just so many now.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 20/06/2018 22:37

Unfortunately Viola instantly makes me think of the tragic band Viola Beach Sad

Gates · 20/06/2018 23:25

Viola is beautiful ☺

peoplearemean · 20/06/2018 23:35

Love Viola and Alice.

Ada - if you live in the midlands you get a lot of blokes called Adrian who nickname Ada and it just reminds me of that!

Battleax · 21/06/2018 00:10

Viola May & Ada Grace.

PopPoppityPop · 21/06/2018 00:33

Viola or Alice. Although not keen on May

moredoll · 21/06/2018 00:38

Alice May

AliasGrape · 21/06/2018 00:42

I love Ada (because of the Lovelace association mainly) and though Grace is a bit overused I do think it’s a beautiful name. Agree that Ada Violet would also be lovely.

I like Alice too.

mrselizabethdarcy · 21/06/2018 00:43

Love Viola

Sillybilly1234 · 21/06/2018 01:04

Ada Grace made a face Confused

trueblueari · 23/06/2018 11:28

I'm so sorry, but as a fluent Spanish speaker I feel obliged to let you know that "violame" (with "me" pronounced as "may") means "violate me" or "r*pe me" which, obviously, is absolutely not something you want to have as a name.

If it doesn't bother you and there's no chance of travelling to a Spanish speaking country, that's fine, but I had to let you know.

Sorry.

Ada May and Althea Rose are lovely.

daisypond · 23/06/2018 11:38

trueblue - surely they're pronounced differently? Viola the name is pronounced something like VYE-o-la, after the flower, not the musical instrument. And isn't the Spanish more like vee-o-la? But I'm no Spanish expert.

trueblueari · 23/06/2018 11:41

daisypond Oh, I was pronouncing the name wrong! Sorry OP!

MikeUniformMike · 23/06/2018 12:30

Many people pronounce Viola as Vee-ola e.g. Wiola is the Polish form.

daisypond · 23/06/2018 12:44

Some languages would pronounce the sounds in Viola as Vee-o-la, true, but we say Violet and not Vee-o-let, as the French / Italians / Spanish, etc, would say that first syllable. Unless you're naming after the musical instrument, in which case Vee-o-la would be fine - bearing in mind the unfortunate rape sound that you get in other languages.

TatianaLarina · 23/06/2018 13:38

Viola - beautiful and original. Don’t like the rest.
