Help with naming first baby.

I seriously need some help with baby girl names, I'm currently 19 weeks and me and my DH have come up with Winston for a boy which we are pretty set on, however we really clash with girl's names and can't agree on anything. I know I have a while left and have gender reveal next week (hopefully) but just wondering if anyone has opinions on my favourite names... Middle name will most probably be Nesta after my late great grandmother.

So my top picks are;

Romilly
Aurelia (is this really common now, I liked it since Love, Actually)
Dorothea
Sylvia
Emmeline (centenary year of suffrage?)
Hallie
Serena
Olive
June

Hoping someone can come up with a reason why one of these is stunning to convince my husband, he wants to name the baby after me.. Danielle.. I don't think so.

Emmeline

WrideD · 15/06/2018 17:14

There was a really cute Christmas film called 'Olive, the other reindeer' and I've always liked it since then... but understand the Pop-eye reference will be more familiar.

Hallie is exactly like Halle pronunciation, I like it from The Parent Trap film with Lindsay Lohan, the twins were Hallie and Annie Grin.

Aurelia is beautiful. It's 278th most popular in 2016 so not popular (!)

HeyDolly · 15/06/2018 17:31

I love Romilly. It’s no.1 on my list but DH has vetoed it 🙄 He’s also vetoed Rowena.

I also like Merryn & Cassia.

Cosmoa · 15/06/2018 18:03

Definitely Romilly or Aurelia! I had Aurelia as a shortlist name. And my daughters middle name is Soraya so I call her Raya all the time! (along with her short first name) and my wonderful midwife during labour was called Romilly so it's a very special name to me Smile

Cosmoa · 15/06/2018 18:05

I also call her "my little Raya Sunshine" as a cute nickname 😍

WrideD · 15/06/2018 18:18

I think Aurelia is starting to warm on my husband too Grin, I just love the idea of a 'ray' of sunshine, I've always thought of it like that, even though it's the 'au' part that means golden, a golden ray, it's too cute.

There's a Spanish name Mireya too which means 'miracle' which I've considered.. I just like Reya/Raya nn I think. Great for an IVF baby or someone who struggled to conceive, we definitely didn't.

Merryn is cute though.

Aurelia Nesta goes okay I think? Just hope the baby is blonde or auburn ish, if they are dark I think Romilly works better.

Yes Aurelia Nesta is really lovely Smile I just love Raya so much! Also Romilly Nesta is just as lovely. I wanted to have Soraya Sunshine as the middle names on the birth certificate but decided not to as it was a bit long. So it's her unofficial second middle name Grin but I call her Raya Sunshine daily Smile

Your naming choice is very similar to mine! Congratulations on your pregnancy and impending new bundle of joy!

bluechameleon · 15/06/2018 18:29

I LOVE Emmeline. I also like Romilly, Serena, Olive and Sylvia.

Cosmoa · 15/06/2018 18:29

And I've never heard of Mireya before, that's gorgeous 😍

WrideD · 15/06/2018 18:47

Soraya is beautiful too, it has the vibe about it like Serena to me, bright and sunny and serene. Funny you should say about Romilly being your midwife, the first doctor appointment I had to confirm my pregnancy, the GP was called Romilly! Thank you, it does seem our tastes are very similar, I've had a lot of bad feedback on Aurelia and Romilly, I'm glad I've come on here and had something positive today.

Emmeline Nesta (Emmie), is lovely !

gracielacey · 15/06/2018 20:07

My sister has a 10 year old Aurelia, nicknamed "Reyli" (Ray-Lee, to rhyme with Hayley). She's the only Aurelia I know of.

gracielacey · 15/06/2018 20:07

I think Aurelia is beautiful

SoyDora · 15/06/2018 20:11

I love Soraya! Also think Serena has a lovely ring to it, and I like Aurelia (I know one, she’s 8).

BornAgainFem · 15/06/2018 20:11

You can predict gender now?

teddybaare · 15/06/2018 20:14

I love Nesta as a first name. Olive is my favourite off of your list though

Flamingosnbears · 15/06/2018 20:39

I don't think you need any persuasion that are all so well suited to you for the reasons you've stated, you just need to sit with OH and pick your favourite together.

gracielacey · 15/06/2018 21:03

How is Soraya pronounced?

If it's Sor-EY-a, to rhyme with Bay, fine.

If it's Sor-I-ya, to rhyme with Why, then to me it sounds like the awful skin condition Psoriasis.

Cosmoa · 15/06/2018 21:28

@BornAgainFem

Are you saying that because she's at 19 weeks? We found out at 18...

TatianaLarina · 15/06/2018 21:53

The Soraya that I knew was pronounced Sor eye a. She was Spanish.

MimiSunshine · 15/06/2018 21:54

Aurelia is more known now than it was when Love Actually came out but I don’t think it’s super common.
The one I know of is often called Relly (rhyme with Belly) but I think it depends on how you pronounce Aurelia.

Raya comes off more natural if you go with Au Ray Leah rather than Au Rel E Ah

Cosmoa · 16/06/2018 00:01

Yeah it seems the Sor-eye-ah pronunciation is the more common (and probably the proper) way to pronounce it. It's really pretty pronounced So-ray-ah.. It's an ancient Persian name/word for the Seven Sisters constellation/Taurus which was a happy coincidence.. As she was born in May and we found out she's part Persian at the start of my pregnancy!

bridgetreilly · 16/06/2018 00:59

In order:

Dorothea
Sylvia
Emmeline
Serena
Aurelia
Hallie
Olive
June
Romilly

Keepittenten · 16/06/2018 02:19

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Aurelia is a name I love, since first watching Love Actually. We considered it for DD 2, but it sounded to similar to DD 1’s name, Azariah.
(Azariah means ‘helped by God’)

Nesta is a unique and beautiful choice, how lovely to honour your great grandmother,
