Honest opinions? Not Clayton! Just Clay :)

madeyemoodysmum · 14/06/2018 20:53

I'd spell it Cley

FurryDogMother · 14/06/2018 20:53

I once knew a guy called Barclay. Suited him, but he was in his 50s - he'd obviously weathered the storms of being called Banksie etc. by then.

CloudCaptain · 14/06/2018 20:54

Aw, I was gonna say I like it, but the pagan meaning would put me off.

DwangelaForever · 14/06/2018 20:55

13 reasons why inspired?

sexnotgender · 14/06/2018 20:55

Awful.

CloudCaptain · 14/06/2018 20:58

How about Flint, Oakley, Brock,

gracielacey · 14/06/2018 21:38

Very American - one of the characters in that Netflix suicide school drama Thirteen Reasons Why is called Clay.

Would be a very strange name in the UK.

StillNoClue · 14/06/2018 22:08

It's really not a name.

It works if your child is the son of a football player. It doesn't work if your parents are anywhere remotely normal.

redexpat · 14/06/2018 22:15

I think 13 reasons why.

Mollie85 · 16/06/2018 10:09

I think the Rooney’s have a Klay-with-a-K

I think it suits the kid on Thirteen Reasons Why, but I’m not over keen for an actual child Smile

Marioki · 19/06/2018 18:27

I must be getting old as my first thought was the broadcaster/gardener Clay Jones, though I don't think that was his actual first name.
I don't go a bundle on the name but I don't hate it either.

HappyLollipop · 19/06/2018 18:31

Very American makes me think of 13 reasons why the main character in that is called Clay.

sweetboykit · 19/06/2018 18:35

Namesake of Wayne and Coleen Rooney's son.

Elkcuhc56 · 19/06/2018 18:40

Rooney
Awful!!

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/06/2018 18:43

13 reasons why here too (which btw is tedious and goes on forever)
Terrible name.

Monday55 · 19/06/2018 19:24

Clay sounds awful...

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 19/06/2018 19:37

I know an American called Clay and rather like it now I'm used to it. It's his middle name though (he goes by it rather than his more conventional first name).

Postymalone · 19/06/2018 19:38

Please don’t name a child Kai/cai regardless of it being suggested.

Lycanthropology · 19/06/2018 21:10

Others you may like are:
Clement

I read that as "cement", which sort of goes with clay Grin .

I don't like it, OP : neither clay nor cement.

I also knew an American Clay, but that was short for Clayton.

MarciaClark · 20/06/2018 19:52

A bit chavvy... In my humble opinion

Battleax · 21/06/2018 01:55

I do like it but if also makes me think of that awful character (and presumably RL conspirator) from the film JFK.

Battleax · 21/06/2018 01:59

Cole is nice and in a similar vein.

(Coke Hawlins, Cole Porter.)

Battleax · 21/06/2018 01:59

FFS. Cole not Coke Blush

FizzyGreenWater · 21/06/2018 12:21

But Coke is an improvement on Clay.

(let's hope it's not twins)

OlennasWimple · 21/06/2018 17:36

It's an American name that doesn't really "work" in the UK

(See also: Chase, Barron, D'Angelo, Cody, Trent, Trey...)
