Is this useable? It's the only name we can agree on and it's really growing on me. Surname is boring/fairly common 2 syllables and middle name would be Francesca which is a tribute to a family member. We don't want Francesca as a first name as the family is full of Frank's and Frankies! What do you think?

Leobynature · 12/06/2018 23:46

Hmm. To be honest I don’t like it but who am I? It reminds me of Vera Duckworth although no one of your daughters generation will know who she is. I love frankie

MeyYael · 12/06/2018 23:49

I really like Vera Francesca (and would also like to use Francesca as a tribute to someone, so I might be a little biased Wink...)

Vera is lovely imo. Fairly classic, used across Europe, intuitive spelling and pronunciation... And the meaning is nice as well imo :)

ErrantBakedBean · 12/06/2018 23:55

Like it - I think it's having a resurgence and shaking off its old lady image. Sounds cool, pretty and Italian to me these days.

BackforGood · 13/06/2018 00:05

Search in baby names. Someone asked about using the name Vera within the last week or so.

I personally think of it as being a really old fashioned name. I am older than the average MNer though, and think a generation older than those having babies now, so those names I think of as old fashioned, as now very fashionable again.... all the Reggies and Stanleys, Dorothys and Iris's. To my mind Vera fits in with those names.

Octopeppa · 13/06/2018 00:26

I think it's great.

Sophronia · 13/06/2018 00:27

I really like it

SneakyGremlins · 13/06/2018 00:28

Will she be solving grisly murders in the rolling countryside? Grin

Whyarealltheusernamestaken · 13/06/2018 00:28

Sorry it sounds like an old lady name, and not in a good way

PippilottaLongstocking · 13/06/2018 00:30

Makes me think of Vera Lynn (who, I’ve just learnt, is still alive at 101)
I like it

gracielacey · 13/06/2018 00:30

Love it - like Vera Brittain, who wrote "a Testament of Youth", possibly my favourite book ever, and such a strong female role model!

2good · 13/06/2018 00:31

Yeah i think it's cool- lots of old names are making a comeback

LoveInTokyo · 13/06/2018 00:42

I like it. Due a comeback. Smile

Whyarealltheusernamestaken · 13/06/2018 01:09

Prepare her for a childhood of emotional trauma, kids are mean and Vera is a target for abuse sorry

Whyarealltheusernamestaken · 13/06/2018 01:11

Not always about what’s due a comeback and what seems nice, it’s about what won’t hurt your child physically or mentally

DontMentionTheWar · 13/06/2018 01:37

Awful. Reminds me of the film Vera Drake (where the main character was a back street abortionist) and Vera Duckworth. Verity is better.

SemperIdem · 13/06/2018 01:44

I like it.

MeyYael · 13/06/2018 01:45

There are girls names Iris, Henrietta, Edwina, Dorothy, Kitty, Clara.. what's so awful about Vera?

It's a bit more popular than
it used to be, btw. (Top 1000...)

Bouncingbelle · 13/06/2018 01:46

Awful & ugly & kids will tease. Although I do think Vita is beautiful.
Francesca is gorgeous.

PunkAssMoFo · 13/06/2018 03:36

It’s short for Veronica, so I would use that if you are dead set on Vera.

OnThisHill · 13/06/2018 04:20

Love Vera! I don't think it's ugly at all and kids born now won't know any of the old Veras. Can't easily be shortened...
Also Veronica and Verity

Quantumblue · 13/06/2018 04:28

Love it! It is beautiful and elegant.

Snipples · 13/06/2018 04:38

Makes me think of Vera Wang - cool, understated, classic.

If you love it, use it.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 13/06/2018 04:53

Yuck. Sorry. Why would you saddle your kid with such an ugly name?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/06/2018 07:00

Not keen sorry, but like the suggestion of Veronica up thread.

coolwalking · 13/06/2018 07:11

I like it!
