Hi All,

Which name do you like best and why? To go with DS Rory.
Daphne
Kitty - Would consider Katrina as full name but much prefer Kitty/Kit
Primrose
Ciara/Keira - DH is Irish and we have a Rory. Really like the Irish routes of this one.

Thank you!

How about Cait for Kitty? Irish too so hitting two birds with one stone there.

Sophronia · 21/05/2018 23:27

Daphne is lovely

ElizaDontlittle · 21/05/2018 23:32

I would have thought Ciara is pretty well known and is my preference although using Kitty for Katherine/Kathryn/Katrina works and I do like that also. Catriona is Scottish rather than Irish isn't it?

MercianQueen · 21/05/2018 23:33

I'm biased as my name is the Scots Gaelic version of Katrina. Although the spelling and pronunciation of the long form is problematic, it's not the massive pain Mumsnet tends to think it is, and instead tends to spark quite an interesting conversation.

i absolutely love my name, and having the long form has meant I have been able to choose and use all sorts of diminutives throughout my life, as they've suited me at the time.

My preferred name is and has always been my full name though. Garlic names and spellings are so beautiful and respectful of their roots.

MercianQueen · 21/05/2018 23:34

Gaelic

Obviously garlic names are also fabulous Grin

m0therofdragons · 21/05/2018 23:51

I love Kitty and have one. She's just Kitty as it was my great Aunt's name. I find it odd when people say it's babyish as obviously my great aunt was in her 80s when I knew her so never occurred to me it was babyish. It really suits her.

Flywheel · 21/05/2018 23:59

Ciara is my favourite.
Caitríona is the Irish spelling, which I think is lovely too.
If you are considering Caitlin, be warned that the correct Irish pronunciation of this name is Kawtchleen, which I suspect is not what your after. Probably not an issue in the UK though

alphajuliet123 · 22/05/2018 00:07

Kitty, definitely. Or another Irish name - Orla, Saoirse, Aine etc

Pemba · 22/05/2018 01:45

Ciara, definitely. Kitty is very twee for a stand-alone name, OK as a diminutive for Katherine/Katrina etc. Primrose also a bit twee and frilly. Daphne is OK, but used to be a bit of a joke name (considered super posh and slightly ridiculous), and still has a little of that vibe to me (I am older).

Pemba · 22/05/2018 01:47

Ciara matches well with Rory, too.

Bouncingbelle · 22/05/2018 03:15

Daphne & Primrose are two of the worst names out there IMO.
Kitty is twee & as someone else says, kitty & Rory sound like a cat & a lion.
Ciara is an absolutely beautiful name which works well on both a child and a woman and 'goes' with Rory.

PeggySchuylar · 22/05/2018 03:24

Keelin is nice with Rory nn Kiki

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/05/2018 03:55

Love Kitty

17caterpillars1mouse · 22/05/2018 06:40

Rory and Primrose

Also really like Kitty but not like both names ending in the same way

Proudmummy2MA · 22/05/2018 08:21

I love Daphne and Kitty, both lovely names!

I like the Irish connection of using the name Ciara, but I prefer the other names.

Racecardriver · 22/05/2018 08:26

I would opt for Katherine nn kitty. Having kitty as her name as she gets older will be a bit weird. Not the end of the world but if would be a bit weird of a supreme court judge was just Kitty.

AnyaMoondial · 22/05/2018 08:53

Daphne and Kitty are both great.

MikeUniformMike · 22/05/2018 13:17

Daphne - ok, bit unusual
Kitty - Would consider Katrina as full name but much prefer Kitty/Kit. I don't like Katrina sorry, but like Katharine and Kathleen.
Primrose. I like Rosie but just see Prim.
Ciara/Keira - DH is Irish and we have a Rory. Really like the Irish routes of this one. - No. Ciara will get Clara, Chiara... and Keira makes me think of Vera.

Of the list, Kitty short for Kitty.

BasicBetty · 22/05/2018 13:49

Kitty is my favourite. Ciara is lovely too.
Not so keen on the others I'm afraid. Daphne and Primrose make me think of elderly piano teachers - sorry, not intending to offend!

blinkineckmum · 22/05/2018 14:20

I like Daphne and Ciara.

Daphnedolittle · 22/05/2018 15:23

Thanks for all the opinions. Don't worry I don't get offended, appreciate the honesty.
I'm leaning towards Ciara as I love the sound of the name. My only concern is it getting mispronounced, which is inevitable in the UK.
I'm not really keen on Katherine, just feels too serious and royal somehow, plus I have lots of friends my age called Katherine.
Daphne and Primrose are definitely marmite!

I have a cat called Daphne.

CloudPop · 22/05/2018 15:40

Definitely Ciara not Keira

Ickyockycocky · 22/05/2018 15:42

Kitty

DramaAlpaca · 22/05/2018 16:30

My favourite is Daphne, but to go with Rory I'd have to pick Ciara. They go perfectly together.
