New here. We’ve recently started to seriously think about a name for our little boy due in July. Needed some advice because I really can’t choose which I like most
Malachi (Kai/Chi as a nickname)
Maybe just Kai on its own
Oliver (Ollie)
Aidan
Kayden
Jayden (Jay)
Rhys
Nathan
Thomas (Tom, Tommy)
Bobby

I love Malachi and Oliver but only in their entirety. I don't like Ollie or Chi/Kai.
Thomas nn Tom is gorgeous.
Nathan see Tom.
Aidan is quite nice.
Bobby is cute, but I'd put Robert on his BC
I'm not a fan of Rhys but it's a good solid name.
Kayden and Jayden just scream chav, sorry. Plus they'll date very quickly.
I think I'd go for Thomas (Tom). It's classy and suits all through life. It's adorable in the classroom yet strong for an adult and cool for a teenager. Also it's a name which will unlike Jayden and Kayden type names will never date.

Thomas is my favourite.

catalinablue · 20/05/2018 11:23

Love Nathan / Nathaniel with the nn Nate. Thomas nn Tommy is adorable also. Rhys and Oliver are not my cup of tea, but not awful.
Not a huge fan of Malachi, Kayden, Jayden or Aidan as they are quite common sounding and seem as though they will date badly. Bobby is far too 'cutesy' for a full name imo.

HeyDolly · 20/05/2018 11:26

I like Aidan and Thomas from your list in that order. I prefer the spelling Malachy to Malachi and hate the nn Kai/Chi.

Zoflorabore · 20/05/2018 11:30

Biased as I have an Oliver ( Ollie ) who is now 15. I love it and it was unusual when he was born in 2003.

If I had a boy now I love the names Oscar, Caleb and Sebastian.
Boy names are hard!

MrsCD67 · 20/05/2018 14:14

Thomas and Oliver are the best although Oliver is so popular
Malachi is ok too but I really don't like the others

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 20/05/2018 14:22

I prefer the spelling Malachy to Malachi

But the y changes the pronunciation of the name, so it sounds like a different name.

My votes for Malachi, but I'm biased as it's one of my DC names. Wink

Komorebi · 20/05/2018 14:30

Agreed. Thomas and Oliver are LOVELY!

Word of caution, I personally find Malachi a bit too close to Malaka, which means w*nker in Greek...

But maybe that's just me

Lellowcar · 20/05/2018 15:04

I think Thomas and Malachi are definitely top of the list right now, maybe Nathan as well. Oliver would be too but it’s so popular right now. We’re not going for really unusual names but don’t want anything too popular either. I love Aidan but popular not enough to actually use it, same with Rhys. I can see what people mean with Jayden and Kayden and I already know someone with a little kayden. As for Bobby I really like it but it’s more of a cute name rather than a name I’d want my son to have throughout his life

Thomas or Malachi would be great choices.

If you love Bobby, you could always call him Robin or Robert on his bc.

NordicNobody · 20/05/2018 15:51

Malachi is OK but I don't like Kai/Chi
Love Oliver but not Ollie (main reason we didn't use it ourself)
Aidan is OK
Kayden and Jayden are horrible, sorry. I've taught a bunch of them and they're always difficult kids so that puts me off. Jowen is nice though if you like that kind of name.
Rhys is OK
Nathan is nice
Thomas is nice
Bobby I don't like

Sorry to be so negative! I'd go for Oliver if I were you, especially if you don't mind Ollie. Either that or Thomas/ Nathan.

userabcname · 20/05/2018 15:53

I absolutely love Malachi - one of my current favourites!

NordicNobody · 20/05/2018 15:53

I agree with you about Bobby being too cutesy. But you could gave a Robert and just call him Bobby as a child. Robert's a great name.

MikeUniformMike · 20/05/2018 16:11

Malachi (Kai/Chi as a nickname) - no
Maybe just Kai on its own - no.
Oliver (Ollie) - yes (not so keen on Ollie)
Aidan - ok
Kayden - no
Jayden (Jay) - no
Rhys - no unless you are Welsh
Nathan - ok
Thomas (Tom, Tommy) - yes
Bobby - short for Robert.

kaytee87 · 20/05/2018 17:58

Thomas and Oliver are the only names on your list I'd consider.

buttercup54321 · 20/05/2018 19:15

Thomas or Robert nn Bobby
Nathaniel
Jonathan
Ethan

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/05/2018 09:33

Thomas.
