Wanted to hear your thoughts, are they classic or a bit old fashioned now? Which do you prefer? Thank you x

Two of my favourite names! They're both lovely and classic, but today at least, Caroline has the edge for me. I also like the potential nicknames: Carly, Caro, Carrie...

Caroline Frances could be a nice combination. Smile

I’ve heard Callie as a nn for Caroline, which I quite like.

Frances

I like them both a lot. They're both quite fresh now and feel less fussy and frilly than names like Francesca (which I also like). Probably I'd go for Frances.

I love frances. Not sure about Caroline.

They both sound dated to me. Not dated like old people's names ready for a comeback. They are dated like they are middle aged names that just sound clunky.
However if they are names you like, that's no reason not to use them. The child will make the name their own and people won't care over time.
Personally I prefer Caroline, as Francis is a little plain and Fran is a boring nickname too. Caroline is in the top 10 names in the US now, so could suddenly rise in popularity here too perhaps? Not sure if that's a good or bad thing to you but something to bear in mind.

Love the name Caroline. Frances sounds too clunky and frumpy, not a fan. Francesca nn Frankie is much prettier.

Millypad · 20/05/2018 14:02

Oddly enough my mum is Caroline Frances. I think is lovely, as is the other way around.

Flatwhite32 · 20/05/2018 18:00

Clunky and frumpy! Sob! I now have a name complex...
Only joking! I'm just pleased you are considering it as a name OP Smile.

MedicinalGin · 20/05/2018 18:02

Love them both OP! I have an Elizabeth which is equally classic, but we’ve never regretted it. Defo prefer them over Carolina and Francesca- they sound v try-hard.

I know a Caroline Frances, she goes by Frances as she doesn't like Caroline.
