Which is your favourite? And what sort of person do you picture with each name?

Heidi!

bitchinginkitchen · 19/05/2018 01:33

Heidi, I have one and everyone always says they love her name. She been the only one all through school (nursery, primary and secondary)

Whitesea · 19/05/2018 01:37

Ottilie. Lots of nickname potential and I like it as a name.

Heidi is popular around here (working class area) and I don't think it is nice.

Verity is an elderly family friend and I can't associate it with a younger person.

Onceuponatimethen · 19/05/2018 01:55

Heidi - Fair haired cheerful round faced child! As an adult I think she would work in a shop.

Verity - composed and bright girl who is competent and together. This is a strong name. I can see her as an adult working in an art gallery

Ottilie - my favourite, strong and individual name, nn often Tilly, an independent bright and feisty girl. She could be a judge, PM, head teacher or company director

Kokeshi123 · 19/05/2018 01:56

Ironically, Heidi in the book had short, dark brown curly hair!

MrsFoxPlus4 · 19/05/2018 02:47

Ottilie is my Dd middle name! Longed for a first but Dh said no! Stella Ottilie x

xQueenMabx · 19/05/2018 02:50

Definitely Verity

Movablefeast · 19/05/2018 03:10

Ottilie and Heidi lovely, Germanic in origin isn't Heidi a nn for Hildegarde?

Verity more classically English.

All slightly twee.

marmitecrumpets · 19/05/2018 03:12

Heidi

Movablefeast · 19/05/2018 03:14

Oops no that's Hilda! But Heidi is a nn for something longer......

AnyaMoondial · 19/05/2018 04:27

Heidi and in my imagination she's totally awesome!

Ottilie and verity both sound a bit grumpy to me, can't really explain why.

LadyWithLapdog · 19/05/2018 05:38

Heidi

QueenCuntyFlippers · 19/05/2018 05:47

I have a Heidi and she’s awesome :)

She’s the only one in school and she is always complimented on her name.

I’d imagine Verity to play hockey and to have ruddy cheeks. Ottillie, I’m unsure x

DryIce · 19/05/2018 06:09

Verity is my fav, I love it. I think it is a classic name with a depth to it that some of the other classic names don't have.

Heidi I like, but find a little cutesy. More a little girl name than a grown up. It is short for Adelheid, the German version of Adelaide.

Ottillie is too frilly for me

HeyDolly · 19/05/2018 06:10

I really like both Verity and Ottilie. Hard to chose between the two but probably Verity at a push. Heidi is OK but am not overly fussed on it.

cptartapp · 19/05/2018 06:32

Heidi by a mile.
Ottilie is clunky and has the dreadful nn Tilly, and don't like Verity at all.

HotChocChick · 19/05/2018 08:08

Heidi!

Down my way the 'T's' are dropped so I hate to think of the outcome of Verity and Otillie! Vear-ah-ee and O-ah-lee I'd guess Grin

TempleOfBlooms · 19/05/2018 08:20

I know three Ottillies under three so it’s v popular in my part of London. One goes my her full name, one by Ottie and one by Tilly. I quite like it but it’s definitly an off the moment middle class name.

I adore Verity.

Heidi is a bit twee

Onceuponatimethen · 19/05/2018 09:11

I know one toddler ottilie - who is based in the south east

felicitythemangyfox · 19/05/2018 09:15

Heidi

Ottilie sounds pretentious.

Verity is OK although might seem a bit odd on a rebellious teen

Frosty66612 · 19/05/2018 09:17

Heidi is lovely and in my list of favourite names.
Verity is ok but not one of my faves.
I really dislike otillie

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 19/05/2018 09:47

Definitely Heidi, a pretty name.
Verity sounds harsh, to me.
Ottilie, a bit over the top.

MammieBear · 19/05/2018 10:06

Adelaide rather than Heidi with Heidi as a Nn or Ottilie. How about Odette?...

Glumglowworm · 19/05/2018 10:47

Really don’t like Ottilie, thankfully have only encountered it on MN

Heidi or Verity are both nice

gwen25 · 19/05/2018 12:50

Verity by a mile.
