Iseult and Isolde are different names rather than spelling variations- I would pronounce the latter Is-old-ay and the former EE-sult. (Know a few Iseults, all Irish)

TatianaLarina · 18/05/2018 20:56

No they are versions of the same name. Isolde is from the German adaptation of the Tristan and Iseult story.

-de is pronounced duh not day in German.

TatianaLarina · 18/05/2018 20:57

Being English I pronounce it the English way.

RebelRogue · 18/05/2018 20:58

Izzy Grin

TatianaLarina · 18/05/2018 21:04

(It’s not actually an Irish name despite being an Irish princess - the first writer of T & I was Anglo Norman. It’s not part of Irish mythology).

starzig · 18/05/2018 21:06

Is-oldie

TheFatkinsDiet · 18/05/2018 22:33

Iz-ol-duh

Sessy19 · 21/05/2018 08:15

Is-old (male), is-olda (female).

MammieBear · 21/05/2018 11:26

Eye-zold-eh

fearfultrill · 21/05/2018 11:27

I would pronounce it iz- ol - duh in my head but my accent would probably make it iz - ol - dee in every day life.

LiitleAce · 21/05/2018 11:35

It's e-sol-d

Like the movie, Tristan and Isolde

Roomba · 21/05/2018 11:42

Iz - oll - d(u)

The (u) is very soft though and not really an u - it's the sound that looks like an upside down 'e' in the phonetic alphabet, but I can't work out how to type it on my phone, sorry!

traumwerk · 21/05/2018 11:46

Is - old - er

sonnyboo · 22/05/2018 12:24

EE-soll-de

17caterpillars1mouse · 22/05/2018 12:32

Is-awld-ee

robotcartrainhat · 22/05/2018 12:45

Eye- zold-ah

My daughters name!
There are many ways to pronounce and spell it. We went with the German way after the opera... just liked it the most!
My family are French and its a popular name over there spelt the same but pronounced Iz-Old.

And then theres the Celtic versions.

So just choose whichever you like the best!

theplanetjanet · 22/05/2018 12:49

Is old.

Tricky for your daughter choosing a name which will constantly have to have the pronunciation and/or spelling corrected (I say this as someone with a similar name which I curse my parents for and only ever use the shortened version of...)

safariboot · 22/05/2018 12:51

Ell-sold.

Oh, is that an I at the start? It looked like an l on the computer.

sonnyboo · 22/05/2018 16:00

We went with the German way

Isolde is pronounced Ee-soll-de in German. The emphasis is on the SOLL.

TatianaLarina · 22/05/2018 16:26

Yep.
