I really don't like it. I know a 6 year old with the name. Not a fan.

GrainneWail · 17/05/2018 18:31

I dislike the two n version but could cope with one. If you love it, do for it..

GrainneWail · 17/05/2018 18:32

Go. Not do. Sigh.

buddy79 · 17/05/2018 18:36

I love it. Makes me think of Dennis Wilson from the Beach Boys.

MikeUniformMike · 17/05/2018 18:43

I've suggested it on other threads. I like it and Den/Denny are fine too.
It needs the 2ns

EllenRipley · 17/05/2018 18:57

I know we like what we like when it comes to names. Totally subjective how it sounds to the ear, and its associations.

But Dennis.

It's just so... Confused

loopdeelou · 17/05/2018 19:54

Saw Denis and immediately thought 'menace'. After that I pictured a fat middle aged man. I really can't picture it on a baby.

LastNightsMakeUp · 17/05/2018 20:16

FWIW I met a mid 20's Italian Denis yesterday and he was lovely. I didn't think anything negative about his name when he introduced himself.

DramaAlpaca · 17/05/2018 20:18

Just don't spell it Denis if your surname begins with a P.

kaytee87 · 17/05/2018 21:03

I really don't like it, sorry op.

buttercup54321 · 17/05/2018 21:06

Terrible name.

Spartasprout · 17/05/2018 21:14

First thought was Dennis Nielsen ...

Buntysoven · 17/05/2018 23:48

There are a lot worse names. If you live it use it!

Singlenotsingle · 17/05/2018 23:50

Dennis the Menace was a character in the Beani. I think he had a dog called Gnasher.

YoucancallmeVal · 17/05/2018 23:52

Normally when I think badly about a name choice, I don't post. In this case I feel compelled to comment. Please don't!! It's dated and just awful. If you hear about little baby Dennis, I imagine a baby in a swaddle with grey hair and a mewling face.

MsGameandWatching · 17/05/2018 23:55

I'd laugh and think it was a joke of someone told me their sweet little baby was called Dennis.

halcyondays · 17/05/2018 23:58

The Beano comic is still going. I think it's ok as a name though.

Joeybee · 18/05/2018 00:16

I do think of Dennis the Menace right away. However kids born today wouldn't make that association. I think a lot of names from this kind of time will come back into popularity in the next maybe 10-15 years. So perhaps you're just ahead of the trend in liking this name?
I say go for it. It's a name you like, most of your family like. Your child would make the name his own.
My friend has a daughter called 'Minnie' and people said she shouldn't because of Minnie Mouse. She went with the name anyway and it totally works. Also none of the kids at the school make that association.

Bouledeneige · 18/05/2018 00:21

You've got to be kidding - its awful. Whats wrong with Trevor?

DramaAtTheTurkeyCafe · 19/05/2018 21:42

I kind of like it - the only two I've known have been very likeable people.

I don't like the spelling Denis though - makes me think of Denis Healey and Denis Thatcher!

RedDwarves · 19/05/2018 22:50

Nilsen, Rader, the Menace.

None of the above are good associations.

BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin · 19/05/2018 23:04

Oh dear, no! I can’t imagine a Dennis under 55 and even then it’s not a great name. If a friend told me they were going out with a Dennis I’d probably struggle to stifle a somewhat bemused expression, let alone calling a baby that!

goldentriangle · 19/05/2018 23:41

I like Dennis, but it's on the front of every bin lorry....

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/05/2018 00:04

Oh that's so cute. Grin.
I can already picture a dark haired mischievous and adorable little boy. Dressed of course in a red and black stripey jumper.Wink

catalinablue · 20/05/2018 11:33

I wouldn't.. for me it would be in the same realm as calling your sons Bert and Ernie. Awful name. However, that's just my opinion and old-fashioned names are not to my taste anyway. I know that's quite the trend at the moment though, so each to their own.
