Looking for a bit of advice, i have always loved the name Alexa but now the amazon thing is popular i'm not too sure. Do you think it's still okay to use? If not, i do like Alexis (but not as much as Alexa). What does everyone think? Thank youSmile

Alexa was a name long before amazon stole it, your fine to use it Alexis is also fine.

peytonlia · 14/05/2018 11:09

I love both, but think Alexa is prettier with its 'a' ending. I think it would be fine to use Alexa imo.
I also considered Alexia and Alexandria for DD (which have the pretty 'a' ending), do you like either of those? :)

Sophronia · 14/05/2018 12:12

I prefer Alexis for a boy.

Jaxtellerswife · 14/05/2018 12:14

My one year old daughter is Alexis. I love it. The amazon echo Alexa thing put me off that name

Cosmoa · 14/05/2018 13:26

I heard of someone going to their friends house and everytime they spoke to their daughter Alexa.. The Amazon thing would think they were talking to it instead and kept responding!

However.. I think it's a daft gadget that people won't use forever.... whereas the name Alexa will last forever Smile

melodybirds · 14/05/2018 13:29

Alexa. Like both though.

BossWitch · 14/05/2018 13:31

Alexis. So many girls names end in either an 'a' sound or an 'ee' sound, be a little different!

MrsJayy · 14/05/2018 13:33

Alexa is lovely as long as you don't have an Alexa thingyma bob in your house that could cause confusion Grin I think I prefer Alexis though

MrsJayy · 14/05/2018 13:35

I know some folk hate it but I really like Lexie if you wanted to shorten it.

TatianaLarina · 14/05/2018 15:03

Alexa. The Amazon thing is a complete irrelevance.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 14/05/2018 15:33

They're both great names, but the Amazon thing would put me off Alexa.
I'd go for Alexandra myself, though (well, to be honest I DID go for Alexandra!)

bridgetreilly · 14/05/2018 16:20

I would avoid Alexa, personally.

Alexis is okay. I prefer Alexandra or Alexandrina.

AnyaMoondial · 14/05/2018 20:09

Alexis! I know two adult women called Alexis and they are both fantastic. It is a very sophisticated name imo.

buttercup54321 · 14/05/2018 20:14

Alexandra

bunbunny · 14/05/2018 20:19

How about Alexi?

Although Amazon Alexa won't be around forever I suspect it will be around for a long time and your dd will be forever being told Hey Alexa do this... Which will rapidly get tired.

For what it's worth my mother named me after a tv witch who could wiggle her nose about half a century ago. And random people still bring it up when they hear my name. I suspect Alexa will be a lot better known than the witch and thus the association will follow her for a long time.

Katjolo · 14/05/2018 20:21

Alexa

TroubledLichen · 14/05/2018 20:30

I agree Alexa will be around for fair few more years and the ‘Hey Alexa do this’ and ‘Alexa Stop’ jokes will probably get pretty tiring. I did hear a dad running after a toddler shouting ‘Alexa stop’ and I’m sorry to say I did giggle a little. I promise it wasn’t obviously but it reminded me of yelling at my morning alarm. Alexis, Alexandra, Alexandria would all be much better in my opinion.

AuntieStella · 14/05/2018 20:32

Alexis is a boys name (unless you are passionate Dynasty fans)

How about Alexandra in full? It's a lovely name and it be shortened in lots of ways, including Alexa if the gadget is short-lived

auntyflonono · 14/05/2018 20:32

Alexandra or Alix (I think one of Queen Victoria's children or grandchildren was an Alix and she was Alexandrina).

DigitalGhost · 14/05/2018 20:34

My 9 month old is Alexa and I'm forever getting comments on how unusual/lovely it is. I didn't let the Amazon connection put me off and I have three of the devices in my house (all called Echo). 😊

SevenOf1981 · 14/05/2018 20:37

We loved Alexa and Alexis but heard of the Amazon Alexa coming out and opted for Alexis for our 19mo DD.
She's mainly known as Lexi and our Amazon responds to echo.
Nobody has mentioned the similarity to Alexa so far!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/05/2018 20:38

Alexa.

hampsteadholly · 14/05/2018 20:50

It put me off using it too. I like Alexia but I didn't use that either in the end!
