Hubby and I really like Olive for a girl (Olive Joan Nora) but I am worried as it’s a bit unusual and I would hate if she was teased/didn’t like her name. Do you know any olives, how was the name received, any thoughts? Thanks

I note a handful people have said 'Olivia is better'.

We used Olive, because the olive branch is a symbol of peace, and also the olive tree is central to certain areas of Jewish life.

Olivia's origin is unclear, it tends to be treated as a feminine form of Oliver, and Oliver's origin is NOT through Olive. Olivia could also be a form of Oliva, which does mean 'olive tree', but as I said, the true origin is unclear.

That's why we wanted to go with Olive, as it's origin is in no doubt.

People can dislike a name all they want, but there's no need to get nasty about it.

Love it!

The name meaning pages say Olivia means olive branch, and was a place name in the bible. First used as a woman's name in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.
Olive does sound a peaceful name.
Name meaning pages can be wrong.

I don't like it at all. Sorry.

I do like Nora, though.
