We have a very common surname - Smith
It’s got to point myself and DP have chose a couple of names each and wondered what other people’s opinions are.
I like - Maya, Leah, Nova, Indie
DP likes - Harper and Ella. He also agrees on Maya but not set for sure.

If you don't like very popular names I would avoid Maya.

Aside from that. My favorites on your list are Nova, and Harper.. And maybe Indie but it's not as nice.

mummytobe07 · 12/05/2018 10:17

Thank you! Maya seems to be the one that is sticking as it’s only one we have really both said we liked but in saying that it was DPs suggestion at start which has slowly grown on me but I have seen a few ppl saying it’s becoming very popular which is something I didn’t want necessarily but nothing too out there either!
Nova DP is dead against but I love but end of the day I couldn’t have something he didn’t like. Harper I’m not sure if everyone just thinks of the beckhams automatically. Indie I like but wonder is it a name she will grow out of, is it cute but not a grown up name as such! A hard decision to make! Thanks very much for ur opinion! Helps to hear what others think for sure x

I love all of those names, apart from Nova (sorry), my favorite is harper! Xx

Annabelle4 · 12/05/2018 10:18

I love Leah and Ella.

mummytobe07 · 12/05/2018 10:22

Oh don’t be sorry lol that’s why I’m asking for honest opinions! Thank you, Harper MIGHT grow on me yet Grin

I love Harper and Nova (as in 'super', right?). Harper is a bit American I guess, but I love Harper Lee's books so would still use it. Maya is lovely but a bit popular now. Ella I think is quite boring. Leah is nice but I used to teach one who was a pain so that's put me off. If I had choose just one I'd go with Nova, I think it's brilliant.

cone · 12/05/2018 11:14

I like Leah best.

MyBreadIsEggy · 12/05/2018 11:15

I love Nova and Maya (pronounces Mya I’m assuming?)

Chocolateyescakeyes · 12/05/2018 11:19

I love love Nova and Indie!! Think I would go for Indigo as a full name. When I have mentioned Nova in the past it has not been popular Grin but I still really like it! It isn’t often I see someone on here with a similar naming style as me!
Not keen on Maya due to popularity but is a nice name. Harper is nice but I do think of the Beckhams unfortunately. Ella and Leah are not to my taste.

Cosmoa · 12/05/2018 11:28

What about Kaya/Kaia rather than Maya?

I was going to use it for my daughter who is due in 9 days Grin but we have gone for something even more uncommon (but still lovely)

I'm hoping Kaya doesn't become too popular as I'll deffo use it for my next daughter (if I ever have another that is!)

mummytobe07 · 12/05/2018 11:29

Yeh as in super nova lol
I love Nova but DP is dead against unfortunately. I’m still trying to let it grow on him tho so mentioning it a lot lol.
Yeh Maya is Mya, personally I think I’d spell it Mya but I think in general people tend to spell it Maya?

My favourites are Harper and Leah. I actually don't think of the Beckhams at all with the name Harper, for the record.

VanGoghsLeftEar · 12/05/2018 11:44

India?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/05/2018 12:10

I like Nova and Leah.

Sophronia · 12/05/2018 12:40

Leah is the nicest.

deptfordgirl · 12/05/2018 12:47

Leah is my favourite. Followed by Ella.

RedDwarves · 12/05/2018 12:54

I love Leah. It’s surprisinhly underused.

MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2018 14:32

India nn Indie is nice. Maya is pronounced May-ah. Not keen,
Harper is a surname.
Ella nice but popular.
Nova - awful.
Not keen on Leah - Lee-ah or Lay-ah?

MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2018 14:40

Oh It's pronounced My-ah. My bad.

DramaAlpaca · 12/05/2018 14:47

Nova is my favourite, and I don't mind Leah. There are too many Ellas around & Harper is too surnamey for me. Indie is cute but I see it as a diminutive.

I know it's popular, but if you both like Maya it's the obvious choice.

mummytobe07 · 12/05/2018 15:45

Leah would be lee-ah
Maya is what I thought was easy option since both agree but don’t like idea of how popular and it’s not quite felt like “right we’ve found the one” if u get me. Just wanted bring it down to a few options

Mollie85 · 12/05/2018 15:50

I thought Maya was pronounced may-a? And Maia and Mya were my-a?

I vote for Maya pronounced may-a or Harper Grin

Cosmoa · 12/05/2018 16:23

How about...

Cleo
Kaia
Saskia
Koa
Marley
Raya

fussychica · 12/05/2018 16:31

Keep saying each one with your surname and you should get a feel for which sounds best.
I think with a short surname like Smith you could definitely go for slightly longer first name and it would sound good.
From your list I think India and Harper sound the best but Nova Smith just doesn't quite right to me.

chezmk1988 · 12/05/2018 16:35

Leah is my fave
