Ahti boys name, what do you think?

So I'm pregnant with our 2nd son. My partner and I struggle to agree on a name that we both like.

Our first son is called Milo. My partner likes Ahti for our second. I am not 100%. What do you think?? Would be great to hear some opinions.

Thanks!

Arty/Artie would be better I think, unless of course you are from a different culture, then I appologise. 😀

RJnomore1 · 22/04/2018 10:59

How is it pronounced?

It's new to me, I think I like it if it sounds the way I imagine it.

ALittleAubergine · 22/04/2018 11:02

Do you live in UK? I guess pronunciation might be an issue. He'd be forever known as Artie.

Mumofsonsx2 · 22/04/2018 20:22

YEah we are in the UK although my partner is French so need a name that works both ways! It would be pronounced 'Ah-tie' so yeah does sound like 'Artie'! It's a Scandinavian name I believe

Farty will be his name through school.

Ahti is a very traditional, old Finnish name, from Finnish mythology:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahti

Its pronunciation in Finnish is similar to Ach-tie (the ‘ch’ similar to Scottish ‘loch’)

I think it’s fine as a name, but I’m not sure I would use it unless you have specific links to Finland...

Kids are cruel, I also think what Tatiana said Farty will be his name through school Sad

Mumofsonsx2 · 23/04/2018 08:31

Ha, so true. I didn't think of that

Not sure where you get that impression flybabyfly, there isn't a sound like that in Finnish. It would be pronounced closer to Ah-tee.

I assumed it was a typo, came on to see what the actual name was. Looks like someone just picked some random letters and threw them together tbh.

Acopyofacopy · 24/04/2018 19:40

Arthur works in English and French.

Smellyoulateralligater · 24/04/2018 19:43

Agree with ‘farty’ nickname comment. And if your in London, Arti is a quite popular Indian girls name. My old School friend was always called farty :)

Smellyoulateralligater · 24/04/2018 19:44

You’re Blush

SasBel · 24/04/2018 19:45

Sasha, Alexandre, Thomas......

TheWitcher · 24/04/2018 20:53

Doesn't sound anything like farty to me. And I always thought it was the name of an important mythological, not just 'a bunch orlf random letters thrown together'...Hmm
