Anxiety over baby boy name!

So our baby boy is a few weeks old now, and for a few reasons he remains unnamed! It was a stressful pregnancy (emotionally and lots of fighting with partner) and we are now kind of separating so naming our baby has been put off and I'm feeling anxious and indecisive about it. But I'm really looking forward to naming him! The name I thought of while pregnant was Euan and it took some convincing as my DH is Scottish and grew up with a few Euans! For me in Australia it is pretty unusual. When our baby was born I though oh little Euan! But he was still unconvinced. We then went between Euan and Story, Euan and Alec and currently Euan and Innes. Innes my partner loves and I do to but over all this time Euan has kind of stuck. His 2 year old sister called him Euan constantly! I have gone to calling him 'bubs' sometimes I look at him and I think Euan, or sometimes Innes! I love that Innes is unique and strong and sounds lovely. I'm also worried that Euan sounds like 'you and' has anyone with a Euan found this an issue?? All in all, I think it's hard deciding while so much other stuff is going on but I want to. I like opinions on names, but more importantly advice on being OK with just choosing! Thanks x

I quite like the sound of Story. However I also think it's a tad silly as a name.
I don't like Euan on a personal level, but That's just a matter of opinion. There's nothing wrong with it as a name, so if you can get your dh on board. I'd go for it.
I wouldn't worry about the "you an". After all there are plenty of Noahs "Know a". Hugos "You go" floating around.
I can't comment on innes as I don't know how it's pronounced. I'll assume in-ez. Am I correct

I love the name Euan. It's fairly popular at the school my children go to, and never been an issue with the way it sounds. Innes is ok, but I much prefer Euan!

My DD was not named until the last day it is officially legal to not register your child. My partner and I could not agree on a name. We had two names and still whilst waiting we were arguing about it. In the end we went with the name he had chosen and actually I am so glad as I kind of hate that name I wanted now Grin

Sounds like hes already 'Euan'
Hes your little Euan. Dont worry about anything else, register his name and enjoy this beautiful time with him. You already know it goes so quickly. Dont let any circumstances ruin these precious early weeks.

I love the name Euan. Keep calling him Euan to get used to it. I think what made it harder for me was I had started called my DD ‘bup’ so in the end that stuck and it’s actually still her nickname, even all my family call her ‘bup’ now.

I so prefer Euan to Story and definitely prefer it to Innes. I'm in Australia too, I don't think people would have problems with the name. The alternative spelling of Ewan may be easier for Aussies though?
Anyway, you should totally go with your gut on this. If he feels and looks like a Euan, and you're thinking of him as that, then use it.

Thank you all for your replies so far, it's lovely to have the outside advice! I know once I've confirmed his name all will be well. Funnily enough I feel scared to let people down by giving him the 'wrong' name. Nuts I know but it's sometimes how I feel and it's clouding my thoughts around it

I love the name Euan (but then I’m Scottish so not unbiased)

Euan Innes or Innes Euan both sound really good together so maybe use one as a middle name which gives him the option when he gets older.

Haha no story wasn't a typo but glad we didn't stick with that name! While I was trying it out I naturally called him my little story boy. Hmm

Euan is lovely, but if you’re in Australia (not clear from the OP), I’d suggest spelling it Ewan as that is the more common spelling and how people will assume it’s spelt.

Yes I'm in Australia but my partner is Scottish which is why I thought to use the Euan spelling Smile

Euan is a completely normal name, stick with it and don’t overthink it.

I have never heard of Story as a boy’s name and think it sounds silly, sorry.

However if you like it you could try “Struan” which is gaining popularity and is a combination of the two.

I have a 3 month old Ewan. We had a final 2 names when he was born and decided that if he was blonde (very likely) he would be Ewan and if he had darker hair then Milo. He was blonde and suited Ewan. However, I wobbled for a few months as I convinced myself Milo was a nicer sounding name and Ewan sounded like You And, plus it's not on trend. But if we had gone with Milo I would have worried it's too trendy right now, not classic enough (my other ds has a classic name) and a choc milk brand in Australia, a dog name etc. So I couldn't win either way. In my case it's prob down to post natal anxiety. Three months on though and he is 100% a Ewan and we are happy with the name. So I do understand your wobbles.

I never noticed the You And thing until he was already named. I never used to look at Ewan McGregor's name and think You And McGregor. Other names we liked sounded like words too - Laurie = lorry, Noah = know a..., Hugo - you go, etc...

Euan is a lovely name and people definitely won't think 'you and'. Go for it!

I think story is a ridiculous name and I thought innes was more feminine. I'm not a personal fan of Euan but there's nothing wrong with it as a name so I'd go with Euan

Inès is a girl’s name. Innes (pronounced Iniss) is both a surname and first name in Scotland, 100% masculine and quite common.

Innes is so much nicer than Euan (imo of course). I find Euan a bit mewling and nasal.

That said, it’s a perfectly acceptable name. Not a stinker at all.

Story would get “what’s the story, Story?” where I’m from, so I’d avoid that.

Oh I love the name Story! Don't like any of the other names mentioned as they just aren't my type. I know a guy called Story and he really suits it.

My nephew is Innes so I'm biased but I do think it's lovely-unusual but not weird

If you love Euan and he's Euan in your mind, call him Euan.
I let my XH bully me out of every name I liked and while DD's name has grown on me (she's 4) I still regret not going with one of the names I liked rather than going through hundreds to find one he'd agree to.

I like Ewan (prefer with w)
Innes is too like Ines (a girl's name) so I don't like it. I'm not in Scotland, and I just hear it as too feminine. manus maybe less feminine?
Story is funny to me! People in Dublin walk up to each other and say storeeee as a greeting. Kind of joking. But it's short for ''what's the story' Any news. So to me it seems funny as a name! Story story.
