What ate your thoughts on Frej (pronounced Fray) for a boy?

Op it seems that foreign names very much bring out Mumsnet's Little Englander spirit. They shudder in horror!

How would people know that it is a foreign name rather than a made up one? Do you expect lots of people to know all the standard names in various countries?

People like you who wander into threads like this and sneer at others really need to check yourself. The OP asked for opinions on a name. I gave an opinion as did many others. I am not a 'Little Englander' but I do know what being bullied is like. No other kid at school is going to give a shit that 'Frej' is a standard name in another country. They will simply rip the piss out of him. That is what worries me.

" Very few people will know the j in Frej isn't idge."

Why would the j change the vowel sound?

I'm English Without being told before I'd pronounce fredge.

If you will be living in the U.K. long term I'd avoid it or use Frey - I'd pronounce that more like you say. It's a pain having to spell/correct pronunciation of my name. Of course that can happen with British names such as various forms of Cathrine, but most people have an idea what they're aiming at, they don't with my name.
