Name like Lorcan?

Expecting baby in a few weeks Shock and just can't quite pin down a boy's name, or even strong contenders. One we have thought of that we almost love is Lorcan. We like the Celtic feel, two syllables and unusual nature, just not quite sure about it. Is it harsh sounding?

We are Up North, Scottish/Irish/American backgrounds, our current DC has Irish-y style name.

Our surname is very, very common and begins with an S so we are trying to go a little more unsual with the first name to balance it out.

Any suggestions gratefully received! Or should we just stick with Lorcan?

I like Lorcan, but I do think Lucan, like the murderer. Sorry

Surely it sounds more like Loo Roll, or Linkin Park? Or Get Some Help Love?

gryffen · 09/04/2018 20:37

Lucian
Lochlan
Lachlan
Struan
Callum
Adham
Aonghas (angus)

Look up Gaelic baby names and a good website has many of them to choose.

Our daughter is Eilidh and we have just narrowed down her brother name.

I’m sorry Vanguard and whoever else thinks I’m thick.

I did say I like it, but said what I associate it with.

Considering I know a Lorcan, who gets called Lucan a fair bit, don’t think it’s a daft comment.

Mrsknackered · 11/04/2018 17:13

Thanks Lennon at least I’m not on my own!

I like Cormac, but be careful with Rogan. I know of someone who named their wee one Rogan with the middle name Josh!
Yes, they are curry lovers!

ReadyMeals · 12/04/2018 09:28

I will try not to name him after curry even if I'm feeling peckish after the birth Grin

The Lucan thing doesn't worry me really. It was a decade before I was born, never mind DC.

Thanks for all the feedback - more positive than I was expecting. I do think it has the ring of a super villain to it, but maybe I'm ok with that Grin will keep it on the list!

Lorcan sounds like a baddie from Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.

heateallthebuns · 12/04/2018 16:54

Lorcan is is not a funny name at all, it's a perfectly normal and quite common Irish name. If you don't like it, how about
Conor
Loughlan
Cormac
Logan

heateallthebuns · 12/04/2018 16:58

Sometimes it's spelt Lorcain if you prefer that, also you could include the fada over the a.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 12/04/2018 17:01

Lorcan
Lachlan
Dylan
Deinan (pronounced Daynan)
Kieran
Lucien
Sylvan

Knittingteapot · 12/04/2018 17:13

I saw a contestant on Mastercard called Larkin once. Similar sound to Lorcan.

BroomstickOfLove · 12/04/2018 17:24

Lorcan's lovely, and the only similar name I can think of that is as good is Oisin. You might also like Ronan, Cathal or Ruairí.

MadMaryBoddington · 12/04/2018 20:46

My first thought was Lord Lucan too.

pipilangstrumpf · 13/04/2018 08:20

I like Lorcan.

No kid today will know or care about Lord Lucan!

sycamore54321 · 13/04/2018 13:33

Cormac, Conor, Loughlin all sprang to mind for me and have already been suggested.

Another similar name is Declan.

I've met a Lorcum once but I'm not sure it's an established name.
