Beatrix is the only safe choice there.

I've always liked Electra, but the story is just too gruesome. Then again, if you like Jinx, you probably aren't bothered!

To Deja I say 'jamais' and that goes for the others too. They all sound like weapons, pharmaceuticals or escorts. Sorry.

GetAwayFromHer · 02/04/2018 07:32

I'd keep

Indigo
Mila
Nova
Autumn
Cassie

My least favourites are:

Sabre - terrible (sorry). There would be a lot of adults talking behind your back
Blossom- sickly
Electra - Complex. No
Zory - Tory

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 02/04/2018 10:36

Indie/Indigo- far too hipsterish for my taste
Zinnia- this was Matilda's mum's name in the Road Dahl story wasn't it?
Bessie- Cute for a child, she'll hate it when she's older though.
Moxie- sounds like a made up name, or a cartoon character.
Venus- stripper name, sorry.
Deja- again, just sounds made up.
Magnolia- I would worry about people shortening it to "mags".
Sabre- again, doesn't sound like a name. It Sounds like a villain from a kids movie or a weapon.
Aspen- please don't, you will be condemning her to a lifetime of Ass jokes.
Nomi- do you mean Naomi? If not then again it just sounds made up I'm afraid.
Xylona- too much like Xylophone.
Juniper- How about June instead?
Blossom- cute for a toddler but ridiculous for a grown woman.
Xia- reminds me of Xena warrior princess.
Idylla- I would substitute for Ida, much prettier and less fussy.
Ivory- again, stripper name, sorry.
Zana- pronounced Zayna or Zaah-na? Either way everyone will mispronounce it
Electra- do you know the story? Electra complex?
Cassy- not terrible but I'd use Cassandra so she has options for when she's older
Xantha- just sounds horrible, sorry
Zory- Just awful, sorry.
Jinx- sounds like a name for a cat or a rabbit, not a person.
Tempest- your daughter really won't thank you for this. Especially if they have to study the play at school.

Sorry OP. I think Willow and Autumn from your list are very pretty though.

daisypond · 02/04/2018 10:47

The ones I would definitely chuck would be:
Moxie - sounds like a short form for a medicine/disease
Nova - a wannabe girl band/ or a make or car
Deja - like "already" in French, without the accents?
Sabre - a name for a dog or an extra from Gladiators.
Nomi - may be OK if it's a valid name in another language.
Xylona - what?
Blossom - too cutesy. Or the name of a horse.
Xia - like Nomi.
Idylla - what? (like idyll with an A on the end to make it feminine?)
Delilah - a bit like calling someone Jezebel or the whore of Babylon.
Ivory - elephant slaughter
Zana - like Nomi. Is this a real name in another language?
Xantha - Xanthe is more usual. Xanthe is nice.
Zory - what?
Jinx - verging on child cruelty.
Tempest - a name for a writer of romantic fiction/or a stripper.

Out of your revised list, I like these 5 the most:

  1. Indie/Indigo (love Indie especially)
  2. Bessie
  3. Juniper (love!)
12. Delilah (Lilah is a great nickname) 17. Bee/Beatrix

And I think these 5 are the least nice:

  1. Nova (sounds like a car, literally means "new", which is a rubbish meaning for a name)
  2. Sabre (sounds like a weapon/tiger/prime target for teasing, not even close to a recognisable name)
11. Idylla. Looks and sounds frilly and ugly. 15. Ivory. Dead elephants. 19. Zory. Sounds like an alien.

Dulcie and Zana aren't terrible. Tempest is growing on me.

elephanttrunks · 02/04/2018 11:14

I'm glad people are liking Autumn, that's my adult DD's name. Obviously I'm rooting for that one OP.

Mollie85 · 02/04/2018 20:15

Although we clearly have differing tastes as my favourite girl’s name is Lucy Grin

Uniglo18 · 03/04/2018 22:29

I'm glad you're taking on everybody's rather robust comments about your name choices. Your revised list of names is realistic now and won't attract wtf looks and comments.

I'd get rid of Tempest/Temperance

Dulcie (reminds me of the poem by Wilfred Owen. Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori. ..It is sweet & decorous to die for your country). Not connected to the name in anyway but it just reminds me of the poem.

Autumn - only if she's born in the season, if not then no.

Zinnia is the best name out of the lot.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/04/2018 22:37

Zinnia is beautiful, by far my favourite.
