Well it’s very Disney so I personally wouldn’t use it. I would pronounce it like they do in the film.

I’ve read on here recently that it’s traditionally a boy’s name.

And there’s the teasing that may ensue because of the washing powder and...car aerial...

Love it. I have a Miranda, and considered Ariel. I know of two, both girls (not in the UK).

I like it. As for the Disney connotations, people are naming their daughter's Belle, Jasmine, Aurora, even Elsa!

I have Jewish antecedents. It's a boy's Hebrew name. Zipporah is a girl's name. .

Aurelia might be worth a though. Or Arianna?

I fucking hate Disney, so any reference would pass me by - the central association to me is the Tempest and a famous biography of Shelley.

Another suggestion would be Meriel. Which actually sounds more like Ariel.

That one wasn't Disney. It's a big live-action remake of the Disney cartoon in the mould of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast.

I love it! Was on my list but I had a boy though I would have spelt it Aryel
