Imogen/ Elizabeth. Any others similar?

Hi all.
Currently 22 weeks pregnant and found out we’re having a little girl.

Looking at names and there’s not many DH and I can agree on. Our surname is pretty unusual, a different spelling but same pronunciation of an illegal drug, beginning with C. So some names sound very wrong with it, including one of my top choices Robyn.

Dh’s top choice at the moment is Elizabeth. He likes traditional names, but not too “old”. I like Imogen, because I think it’s a little more unusual without being too out there. I like Elizabeth too, but would like something a bit more uncommon.
We both like May as a middle name. Any other first names we could consider?

Love Imogen.

Elizabeth is ultra traditional and none of the diminutives are nice.

I don’t like Robyn but it would be more original than May as a middle name. Everyone’s middle name is May these days and if it’s not the middle name it’s hyphenated.

I had both those names on my list - others were:
Claudia
Ruth
Astrid
Cressida
Hazel

HeartySoup · 25/03/2018 22:23

Imogen is definitely not unusual. It may have been 10+ years ago but there are a lot now.

Other similar names:
Isabelle/Isabella/Bella/Belle
Rose
Eleanor

Eliza

FlaviaAlbia · 25/03/2018 22:27

Harriet?

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 25/03/2018 22:28

I like both names but just to warn you Imogen isn't unusual. In my school of 500 kids there is 1 Elizabeth and 4 Imogens.

IggyAce · 25/03/2018 22:31

Imogen is a beautiful name.
My suggestions:
Meredith May
Evangeline May
Adeline May

LampShadeHeid · 25/03/2018 22:44

Thanks all.

A few names suggested are also on my top list but DH isn’t keen. Will need to suggest Harriet, Edith and Meredith as I love those too.

I do realise May is very common at the moment hence why we ruled it out as a first name but it is a family name to honour both our grandmothers. I hope Imogen isn’t too common here, I haven’t heard any friends or family name their babies it but I’ll question about and see if there’s any in play groups or baby classes my friends take their little ones too. Not that it will matter too much, I do love the name!

Possibly not very helpful but I love Elizabeth. And I like Beth as a shortened version. Could Elisa be an alternative?

No Elizabeths at DC's school but I know several Imogens.

Waterlemon · 25/03/2018 22:46

Imogen was top of my list of girls names for DS2, Isabelle for DS1.

I also loved (but DH didn’t)
Bethan
Liliana
Grace
Annie
Charlotte
Evelyn (but too many pronunciations)
Eloise
Emily
Josie
Maisie
Claire

Glittertrauma · 25/03/2018 22:47

How about Margot? To me it has a similar vibe as Imogen or Elizabeth. Maybe Clara too.

BikeRunSki · 25/03/2018 22:52

Ingrid
Astrid
Elspeth
Eleanor
Anna

Anything too wordy might become s skeleton sentence with “.,,,,,, May Cockayne”

LampShadeHeid · 25/03/2018 22:54

I love Evelyn but DH wasn’t keen on that.
Another I do really like is Margot.

Elizabeth is really the one we both like (he more so than I) and I would like it shortened to either Eliza or Beth if we do go with that name.

Starting a list to remember all these names so can narrow them down over the next few months.
