What do you think of Willow and Willa

What do you think of Willow or Willa (for a girl)

I've always thought Willoe was a bit too hippy. But I've come across the name Willa which I also quite like.

Is Willow/ Willa too 'trying hard to be different'?

I'd like a name that's not too common but not too 'out there's or try hard. If you don't like these names, what else would you suggest.

I know two Willows but no Willas. Willow doesn’t seem too out there I don’t think. Not sure about Willa.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 25/03/2018 20:42

I like Willow a lot, it is unusual but ridiculous

Willa doesn't sound like a real name to me

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 25/03/2018 20:42

NOT ridiculous that should say!

OlennasWimple · 25/03/2018 20:43

Wylla is a character in Game of Thrones - this may or may not be an issue for you

MyBrilliantDisguise · 25/03/2018 20:44

The only Willa I've heard of is the writer, Willa Cather. To be honest, it looks like it's a name you've made up and as though you can't spell.

villainousbroodmare · 25/03/2018 20:44

Strange how different those two seem to me. Willow to me is graceful, slender, adult, "finished" and Willa makes me think of a dribbly toddler in a onesie.

AnyaMoondial · 25/03/2018 20:45

Both good names, sadly Willa is how Willow is pronounced in some areas near me.

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 25/03/2018 20:45

I love Willow as a name, but what if your child was of the stocky type?

Lilonetwo · 25/03/2018 20:48

Interesting. I wasn't sure it would be met with so many positive comments.

I agree Willa looks a bit unfinished. Perhaps it's a nice nickname for Whilemena. (DH likes Willa)

What do you think of Whilemena then?

chachacha that's a good point haha!

SkyLucy · 25/03/2018 20:52

It's spelt 'Wilhelmina'. Super unusual in the UK, and you could have a fair few lovely variations/nicknames from it.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 25/03/2018 21:01

It makes me think of "Our Willa."

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/03/2018 21:01

Nice names. I marginly prefer Willow. However I wouldn't say it's different.
Also it's hard nAme to live up to. You'd have to be thin and willowy to suit it, Imho,
and I can't see me having a thin willowy child.

yumchoc · 25/03/2018 21:01

Hate to be say those names are nice but are definitely a bully's day dream to rip the poor child to shreds

BennyTheBall · 25/03/2018 21:03

Willa is just silly.

TroysMammy · 25/03/2018 21:07

Wasn't Willa-Jean the baby, Howie's sister, in Ramona the Pest?

faireemuff · 25/03/2018 21:17

Willa will get willy all day long.

Willow is beautiful

Zazzleza · 25/03/2018 21:19

Considering Willow for our baby if a girl but concerned about being teased at school. Children can be cruel and it’s too easy...

Lilonetwo · 25/03/2018 21:29

Oh do you think it's a name that will insight bullying? Sad

Perhaps they will have to be a certain type of person to carry off the name Willow. DH and I arent 'cool'.

The more I think about it, the more I like Willow.

Willa is a proper name, it's the Shetland version of Willina, a female form of William popular in 18th/19th century Scotland . It's still in use today, albeit rare. Just one or two a year.

Shadowboy · 25/03/2018 21:37

I have a Willow. It really suits her. She’s tall, dark and slim. Lucky really that it suited her.
Willa is fairly common in the states. I know two both from the USA

Zaya71 · 25/03/2018 23:52

I like both. I've only ever heard Willa as in Willa Cather but know quite a few toddler/baby Willows.

ShovingLeopard · 25/03/2018 23:54

I know a little two year old Willa. I think it's cute. It does remind me of Ramona the Pest, though!

FusRoDah · 25/03/2018 23:56

I don't like Willa at all I'm afraid. Ditto Wilhelmina.

Willow is pretty but all the Willows I've ever met have been people's cats, which would put me off using it tbh.

DamsonOnThisDress · 25/03/2018 23:59

My dog is called Willow. Pretty name.

I'm not too keen on Willa though, sorry.
