What do you think? Due a revival? Had its day?

Can't make my mind up.

I quite like it!

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 23/03/2018 17:41

Now, I think Jean is cool and quite edgy. I like it. Jeanie is cute for a young child. Really, really don't like Jeanette though. Completely different feel.

I quite like Gene for a boy as well.

Hygge · 23/03/2018 17:42

I like it.

Temporaryanonymity · 23/03/2018 17:44

Hi Jean!

Poor Jean will be fed-up of people marvelling at their original joke.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/03/2018 18:36

Jean is cool !

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 23/03/2018 18:38

I met a baby Margot Jean the other day, which I thought was lovely.

Tfoot75 · 23/03/2018 18:45

Never considered it actually, but I do think it’s nice, in an Enid blyton kind of way. I think it’s of my parents generation though, and names from that era haven’t really made a comeback yet (Susan, carol, Patricia etc etc)

DappledThings · 23/03/2018 19:28

It's my DD's middle name after a great-grandmother on either side. We didn't like it for a first name but it was a set middle name from when I was pregnant the first time. First time turned out to be DS and our first names for girls changed loads over the next 22 months before DD arrived but it was always Jean for the middle.

CremeEggThief · 23/03/2018 19:32

I love it as a middle name.

ScreamingValenta · 23/03/2018 19:36

Lovely name!

SuperBeagle · 23/03/2018 19:37

One of my friends just named her baby Joan Janice.

I think it's awesome.

I think Jean is ready for a comeback. Jeanie is sweet for a child.

mistermagpie · 23/03/2018 19:44

I think it could be quite cool on the right person. It's a bit in the Edith/Mabel category in that way.

Gene for a boy is great too and I'm surprised there aren't more of them about.

TroubledLichen · 23/03/2018 19:49

I know two, both under 10. One is French so pronounces it more like Jan than Gene. I really like it.

B1rdinthebush · 23/03/2018 20:00

Jean was on our list but we ended up going with June. I love it though, a really sweet, cool name.

Moominfan · 23/03/2018 20:01

I still think Stacey slaters mum off eastenders

NameChangedAndForgotOldName · 23/03/2018 20:08

Its my 6 year olds middle name, she has a traditional name and it goes nicely.
She likes Jeanie tho, it doesn't suit her 😢

greenmagpie · 23/03/2018 20:12

I love it, if either dc had been a girl it would've been middle name. Although probably 'jeanne' after grandmother.

Sophronia · 23/03/2018 20:46

Definitely due a revival. Jeanie is a cute nn.

Hohofortherobbers · 23/03/2018 22:24

Jean suddenly sounds very modern to me. How does time do this?

GetOffTheTableMabel · 23/03/2018 22:26

Completely fabulous. Manages to be cool, cute, novel & traditional, all at the same time.

Oddish · 23/03/2018 22:31

I love it and it was almost DD3’s name. I asked thoughts on it here around 2 years ago and it was mostly a negative response, it’s so interesting to watch name fashions change.

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2018 22:37

It's OK as a middle name.

Earslaps · 23/03/2018 22:41

Barbara Jean would be cool.

Buxbaum · 24/03/2018 04:58

It’s very cool in a 70s kind of a way. It reminds me of Willa Jean from the Ramona novels.

user1472377586 · 24/03/2018 05:29

I really don't like Jean. Jeans...
Would you consider Joan?

I saw your other thread (Enid). Enid's better than Jean ... have you thought of Maud. It's a very old name, strong, short and due a comeback in my opinion.
