Beatrix is a lovely name as is Dorothy, not as keen on Delores think it's mainly because of the meaning. If popularity makes a difference I'd say go with Dorothy or Delores.

Abouttoblow · 20/03/2018 09:40

Why change the spelling of Dorothy to Dorethy?
Cue lifetime of your child having to correct everyone's spelling Confused

DollyLlama · 20/03/2018 09:42

Just jumping in with a vote for Dolly Grin

ChocolateCrunch · 20/03/2018 09:42

Dolly nn for Dorothy, but like Dotty/Dot too.

BevBrook · 20/03/2018 09:47

I think Dorothy is a lovely name, and Dolly is fine., not my cup of tea but nothing wrong with it. I prefer Beatrice to Beatrix, and again Trixie is fine but not my cup of tea, it sounds like a girl in a school-story comic ("Trixie saves the day!") which is not a bad thing.

MadMaryBoddington · 20/03/2018 09:50

Dorothy - very 1950s. Still feels old fashioned, not in a renaissance of old lady 1920s names (Lily, Hazel etc). Pros - not likely to be another one in her class. - There are two Dorothys in dd’s class. One is shortened to Dot. I like the name. Dolly is terribly childish but at least she could revert to Dorothy on moving up from Preschool.

Not a fan of Beatrix or Trixie personally.

Buxbaum · 20/03/2018 10:05

Love both Beatrix and Dorothy, but love Dorothea even more.

InspiredByIntegrity · 20/03/2018 10:12

Dorothy, Dotty, Dolly would be my choice. Hasn't done Dolly Parton any harm !

ColinTheDachshund · 20/03/2018 10:17

There are some great strong Dorothys - Hodgkin, Sayers, and yes, Dolly Parton.

Trixie is a good name for a small dog.

AnyaMoondial · 20/03/2018 10:23

Beatrix nn Trixie is my fave of the two.
I prefer Dorothy to Delores and prefer Dotty as nn too, that's really cute.

There was a Delores nn dolly at my school. I remember her being excessively annoying and a bit of a cow but I don't remember her being teased at all.

LastNightsMakeUp · 20/03/2018 12:34

Dorothea?

I know a little Dorothy and an adult Dorothy and they’re both referred to as Dotty

Twelve8Ts · 21/03/2018 23:29

Totally agree about the bullying comments! It’s such a load of rubbish!

DogWoman123 · 22/03/2018 06:41

Of course it isn't! Fucking Dolly at senior school. Jesus wept.

LoveInTokyo · 23/03/2018 00:19

I prefer Beatrix/Trixie both are fine.

If you go for Dorothy, please don’t misspell it. Smile

DogWoman when was the last time you were in a school? I’ve said it multiple times but kids don’t give a shit what your name is nowadays. They are more likely to judge you on your trainers. It’s adults that have the issues here and are trying to say it’s the children🙄
