I know Myleene Klass called her little girl Hero?. Is it too pretentious/ celebrity?
Honestly?

It's definitely a girl's name (Shakespeare reference as noted already) so to use it for a boy would firstly look like you were unaware of this. (In a similar vein to people using Beau for a girl when it is obviously a boy's name),

It's ok for a girl - a bit pretentious - but definitely not for a boy as a) you would look ignorant of literary reference and b) it is opening up to ridicule if child not very heroic!

Hiro is nice, if you have a Japanese connection.

Regardless of gender, just no.

I think it's an unfeasibly big name for anyone to pull off. However I consider myself pretty well read and did not know the Shakespeare character. Also hero is one of those nouns with a feminine form that is fairly currently used - heroine - so if I saw Hero Jones on a list of names, I'd presume it was a boy.

I wouldn't call any baby is though!

Hero is a girl’s name. Hiro is a Japanese boy’s name and would be very odd to use if you’re not Japanese.

mylaptopismylapdog · 19/03/2018 00:28

No I wouldn’t as I think too much attached to it’s meaning in other contexts.
