Mariella is lovely. Mariella Murray maybe sounds slightly tongue twistery though?

AnyaMoondial · 15/03/2018 01:54

Mariella is a terrific name Smile

Cavender · 15/03/2018 02:11

I think Mariella is lovely but she could easily end up as Mari Murray which I don’t think works very well.

Sorry.

SuperBeagle · 15/03/2018 03:17

I think Mariella Murray is a real tongue twister. There's a case of a missing woman called Maura Murray in the US and I can't count the number of times I've heard her name stumbled over as "Murray Murray", "Maura Maurey" etc. I think a similar thing would happen with Mariella.

Not a fan of Yve either. Is there a reason for this spelling instead of Eve?

HuskyMcClusky · 15/03/2018 03:22

Mariella Murray doesn’t work, IMO.

Pixieshelle · 15/03/2018 06:41

Hi superbeagle yes there is a reason for Yve being spelt with a Y it is short for Yvonne which is my mums name

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/03/2018 07:19

Very nice !

mrsnec · 15/03/2018 07:39

I used the Eve spelling for my dd's middle name. It was the only way I could get it past dh who vetoed Yvonne which was my dgm's middle name.

I get that it's a completely different name but it was enough of a nod to me anyway and looked nicer written down. My dd's first name also starts with M and ends in a.

Mariella is lovely.

lecossaise · 15/03/2018 07:42

You know the Kate Nash song, right? I quite like it (both the song and the name Mariella!)

Pixieshelle · 15/03/2018 08:51

I love the Kate Nash song Mariella and if I'm honest that's why I love the name so much too, but it has also turned out to have a very significant family meaning as my nan who passed away a couple of years ago was called Mary but I'm not a fan of the name Mary itself so feel Mariella uses her name in a slightly unusual way that I think is very pretty

I love Mariella but wouldnt do Mariella Murray, can you double barrell your surname?

Pixieshelle · 15/03/2018 09:25

Double barrel isn't really an option we are using my last name as my partners last name is badman and we both hate it. We have thought of hybrids but my sons last name is Murray and we don't really want this one to have a completely different last name to the rest of the family

Afreshcuppateaplease · 15/03/2018 09:27

I was just going to mention the song!

Purplerain101 · 15/03/2018 09:32

mariella is lovely but I don’t think it sounds right with Murray. I guess it could be shortened to Ella though which goes well with Murray

Pixieshelle · 15/03/2018 09:38

Personally I don't want to shorten her name and will alway use the long form of Mariella but I have thought of nicknames that may be used to give. Her options and she will have a few Ella, Yve, Mari, Marie, Marti I want to leave her nickname as her choice that way it'll be a name she likes and wants to use.

BlancheM · 15/03/2018 12:00

So lovely. I love alliteration aswell so I think it goes brilliantly with the surname.

Pixieshelle · 15/03/2018 18:00

BlancheM my name uses alliteration too and I quite like I'm MM like Mariella will be

OP posts:
bridgetreilly · 15/03/2018 19:19

I think Mariella Yvonne Murray works better than Yve.

Pixieshelle · 15/03/2018 19:35

I like it with Yvonne but I'm not sure the other half will go for it unfortunately

Catrina1234 · 15/03/2018 22:31

Like most others I really like Mariella and I've only ever heard Mariella Frostrup (a journalist - writes in Observer) think she's Norwegian or Danish. Never heard Eve spelt like that - seems weird - no Mariella Murray isn't too good but not impossible- I assume that's your last name.

Pixieshelle · 15/03/2018 22:49

Yeah Murray is my surname and we can't use OH's as we both dislike it. My first name also begins with M and I kind of like the alliteration (both names having the same letter)

OP posts:
HuskyMcClusky · 15/03/2018 23:23

I usually really like alliteration for names; it’s the singsong Mari- + Murray that makes this bad.

Melanie Murray or Margaret Murray? Sure. (Not that I’m suggesting either of those names, just to illustrate the difference!)

BackforGood · 15/03/2018 23:32

Agree with most. It does sound like a tongue twister when said together with your surname (and you might want to get this thread taken down soon, as you've given away both your surnames so not very anon). Middle names aren't usually used, so it would be Mariella Murray or people will shorten it to Mari and Mari Murray doesn't sound right either.

Backtoblack1 · 15/03/2018 23:43

Love it! The alliteration is poetic. Gorgeous name x

squoosh · 16/03/2018 00:29

The two names kind of blend into one, Mariellamurray.
