Joseph vs Ted

Due a little boy in May, I love the name Joseph but my husband is sitting on the fence. He wants to go with Ted, I don’t hate it and I do think it’s sweet but I think Joseph is traditional and will see him through his whole life, I’m not so sure that Ted would do the same. The middle name will be Daniel as that is my husband’s name. What are others thoughts?

There are a lot of Teds and Teddys about at the moment. I'm sure Joseph is popular too but it seems less faddy to me.

Joseph hands down. It was on my shortlist as it was my grandfathers name ...in the end we decided no family names , then no one can get offended .

I really wish we had gone with it though .....my DS could so carry that name off !

Joseph is nice, as is Daniel, love Edward. Ted is just awful.

FawnDrench · 13/03/2018 15:21

He might be nicknamed JD...

pipilangstrumpf · 13/03/2018 15:27

Ted is too Teddybeary and soft.

Joseph is better.

Threeandabit · 13/03/2018 18:43

I love Joseph. I think it's more of a classic than Ted by itself. What about Joel?

Pemba · 13/03/2018 20:41

Joseph is really nice, and I love the diminutive Joe.

Ted sounds incomplete, and too old for a child. However Teddy which is very popular sounds too babyish and like a soft toy of course! I would say Edward on the birth certificate, with Ted/Teddy as a nickname, giving him the option to switch to Eddie or even Ned when he is older. Or Theodore is also not bad.

But as you say you don't like either Edward or Theodore, I think you should continue to push for Joseph.

Another Joseph fan here. Joseph Daniel is such a handsome name. Ted's a bit meh

Proudmummy2MA · 13/03/2018 22:46

Love the name Joseph and it sounds lovely when paired with Daniel :-)

Dancingmonkey87 · 13/03/2018 22:49

I have a Joseph lovely name

TatianaLarina · 14/03/2018 20:22

Ted is awful as a stand alone name, altho I like Edward and Theodore.

On that score - Joseph by a mile.

mum2bemay22 · 14/03/2018 20:53

I wouldn’t say Ted was ‘awful’ PP, I can appreciate it isn’t everyone’s taste. Still routing for Joseph and I think that’s what we will settle on ☺️

Think you should stick to your guns. Ted is a bit nickname like.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/03/2018 21:01

Joseph. 100% without doubt. So long as you like Joe.

SilverGiraffe7 · 14/03/2018 21:18

How bothered about popularity are you / is your DH? Would your DH mind if he was one of several Teds in his school? It's really popular now so any Ted / Teddy is likely to get known by his surname initial too.
I love the name Ted but I think it's just too popular now. I think Joseph is more classic and, while still mainstream, less commonplace.

user49er · 14/03/2018 21:35

I have a Joseph named after my DF, I love it

Jassmells · 14/03/2018 22:03

Definitely Joseph.

Had a cat called Ted. Also reminds me
Of the fat man in Hi-De-Hi!

blackteasplease · 14/03/2018 23:49

Joseph definitely!

DaddysGirl36 · 15/03/2018 21:40

I prefer Ted and think Ted Joseph or Joseph Ted to keep you both happy is nice, Daniel is a lovely name but the above sound better together.

I disagree that Ted isn't a name that can carry through life. I think it's a good strong name. Teddy is more babyish but that's not the name you are choosing and it's only if you or the child would want to that it would be used.

I know more Joes than I do Teds
