Cash?

Me and hubby are having a baby boy. He is American so likes names that are a little bit out there or different. He really likes Cash, Mason, Jayden, Carter, Chase and Xavier. When he says them they sound cool but sound weird in my British accent. Please help me? 🤔

Cash..Middle name Converter?

rollingonariver · 13/03/2018 20:29

Cash is awful, sorry!
He'll be bullied for chase, he's the most popular character on the most popular kids show. The rest sound a bit 'chavy' to me Sad

Flatpackjackie · 13/03/2018 20:34

All awful. Cash? Terrible. Xavier is really crap too. Sorry.

AutoFilled · 13/03/2018 20:35

Definitely not Cash or Chase. Chase is a paw patrol dog and every child knows it. (And it not being a normal name means he will be seen as being named after the dog).

The rest are ok and American to me.

gruffalopuffalo · 13/03/2018 20:35

Sorry, they all sound awful to me (mostly very chavvy). Xavier is probably the best of a bad bunch, IMHO. However, if you're living in the US then you could probably get away with any of them there.

lottiegarbanzo · 13/03/2018 20:49

...or card? Oh, as a name, not a payment method? For a person? No.

Someone mentioned Cass, which is really rather cool. Or you could go for something like Con (Conrad) or Byron, if you like surnamey names.

The rest are not my cup of tea but ok if yours, except that Chase has been claimed by Paw Patrol.

Which country do you live in? This matters.

LoveInTokyo · 13/03/2018 23:36

Oh dear.

It seems your husband has that dreadful American affliction known as “shockingly bad taste in names”.

Xavier is the only decent name of that list but he is probably pronouncing it wrong (as most Americans do).

It isn’t supposed to sound like Eggs-Saviour.

lottiegarbanzo · 14/03/2018 08:28

Oh I see - I was imagining that 'Zay-vee-or' was not considered correct and perhaps Xavier was correctly pronounced like the Spanish Javier.

OP if Cash comes from admiration for Johnny Cash, how about Johnny? Actually really unusual these days and a lovely name.

LoveInTokyo · 14/03/2018 08:43

It is quite like the Spanish Javier, lottie. But it’s more like kzav-ier.

In the X-Men film they pronounced Charles Xavier like “eggs-saviour” which isn’t correct. There are probably lots of American children called “eggs-saviour” now as a result.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 14/03/2018 08:48

Xavier is the only one I'd consider

Cash....me outside

Moominfan · 14/03/2018 09:04

What about

Ellis
Hudson
Calvin
Alex
Asher
Troy
Ashley
Cole
Sawyer
Leo

Backtoblack1 · 15/03/2018 23:49

All naughty boy names.

dinosaurkisses · 15/03/2018 23:55

Oh god- I quite like Cash Blush. Xavier is ok, but meh.

None of the other names though- all of them seem a bit dated, very early 2000s? I’m on an American baby board and I’ve never seen any of those names being used- although someone did recently call their son Cable Hmm

Littlemum2be86 · 16/03/2018 09:07

Xavier is nice! Unusual but not weird. Not too keen on the others

RightOnTheEdge · 16/03/2018 09:35

I quite like Cash but there is a Cash (maybe Kash) at my dcs school so I am used to it now I suppose and it doesn't sound 'out there' to me anymore.
I've never heard anyone say anything negative about it. there's also a Jayden.

If you like any of the names OP call him what you want. I work at a nursery in my dc's school and there has been a few names I've found 'unusual' at first but when you get to know them the name is just natural and I can't imagine them called anyone else.

Don't worry about all the chavvy comments. There's always a few on Mumsnet and hopefully you mix with nicer people in real life.

DisabledUserName · 16/03/2018 09:41

What about Dashiell NN Dash?
Has a more proper name for when he's an adult and still a cute kid/ American style name?

Evelynismycatsformerspyname · 16/03/2018 09:46

Cash is possibly the worst name idea I've read on here in ages :o

Wonga for DC2 perhaps? Or perhaps Card, so people can amusingly ask "Cash or Card?"

The other name suggestions are all better - don't call your child a slang term for an everyday item.

Evelynismycatsformerspyname · 16/03/2018 09:49

Kash with a K if it's an Asian name is totally different to a white Anglo American kid called cash with a C for no reason.

Evelynismycatsformerspyname · 16/03/2018 09:50

Dashiell nickname Dash is a million times better!

Ohyesiam · 16/03/2018 09:51

Cash is the worst of the list. The rest are meh except Xavier .

PsychoPumpkin · 16/03/2018 09:53

No offence, but he only half decent name on the list is Xavier.

LastNightsMakeUp · 16/03/2018 14:01

How about Cassius? Cass for short - much better than Cash.

Sorry but I’m not particularly fond of any on your list apart from Xavier which I would pronounce with a ‘Jhav’.

Casper, jasper?

FizzyGreenWater · 17/03/2018 14:36

Xavier is TOTALLY different to the rest there - I'm not a great fan, but it's objectively a much nicer name.

Sorry but all the others are awful IMO - all very harsh, impersonal names which sound made-up, the names of things rather than people. Modern isn't necessarily bad, but there are a whole set of names like this which are just ugly!

There are some good suggestions on here for 'cool' names which are much nicer. I like Calvin, Cassius (Cas, Caz, Cash for short). How about Miles, Roman, Leo?
