Thought we had firmly decided on Isolde but now we seem to be reconsidering....!

Other names now being considered
Tristessa
Astrid
Sapphire (this is DH choice becase of a 70s tv show he loves)
Magdalena
Alethea/ Althea

Id welcome suggestions of similar names I might not have thought of and also thoughts on these names and which I should rule out.

Thanks!!

Valentina?

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/02/2018 14:03

Tristessa is erm... interesting, but not in a good way. What about just Tessa?

Tbh I only like Magdalena - beautiful underused name

I do quite like Isolde too

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/02/2018 14:04

Tristessa is ridiculous. Why would you call your daughter “Sadness”?

Stringofpearls · 27/02/2018 14:06

I suppose for romantic the classic Juliet comes to mind. I also always see Rose as quite a romantic name.

chezmk1988 · 27/02/2018 14:11

Juliette
Rosalie
Aurora
Aphrodite

windchimesabotage · 27/02/2018 14:14

Tristessa is so beautiful sounding but I had originally ruled it out for being over the top. Im not worried by the meaning of it because I do think many names mean 'sadness' but in that capacity its a positive trait. My sons names means soulfullness. I think when names are based around 'sadness' thats what they are implying. Magdalena also means sadness doesnt it I think?

I reconsidered Tristessa this week however after DS playing with a girl in the park who turned out to be called 'Ophelia' Which made me think that maybe it is becoming a bit more common to have quite dramatic names and in school now days no one would turn a blind eye to a name like Tristessa!

I don’t usually think the meaning or connotations of a name need to be taken too strongly into account, but I also would shy away from Tristessa because of the sadness meaning.
I like Astrid. I really like Isolde.
How about Maud, Ophelia, Rosalind, Rosamund, Mariana, Linnet?

BevBrook · 27/02/2018 14:15

Ha, Ophelia cross post!

windchimesabotage · 27/02/2018 14:15

Aurora was top of our list till we found out how commonly used it was last year. I think its in the top ten or twenty?

I like Magdalena best from your list. I don't like Astrid but can't really say why - I feel as though it just doesn't fit with the others. How about Seraphina or Giselle?

ThomasHardyPerennial · 27/02/2018 14:22

What about Ileana?

FuckyDucky · 27/02/2018 14:24

Tristessa?? I mean, what if the poor child has a Jamie Oliver style lisp??

Astrid is harsh sounding.
Althea is the nicest of all.

AthenaAshton · 27/02/2018 14:24

Eustachia?

BevBrook · 27/02/2018 14:26

If we are talking out-there names I actually really like the name Psyche (Sigh-key), as in Eros and Psyche, which does mean soul and has a lovely sound, I think. But I realise I am basically on my own with that one.

SoftSheen · 27/02/2018 14:30

Aphrodite

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 27/02/2018 14:30

Phaedra, Celeste.

Enuffsenuffsenuff · 27/02/2018 14:31

It's up to you OP as only you and your DH's views really matter, but I think Tristessa is over the top. That's a hard name to take through life - a lot of assumptions about your DD will be made because of it and not necessarily positive ones.

Here are some more manageable romatic names you could consider:

Genevieve
Rosamund
Arabella
Juliette
Hermione
Claudia
Rosemary
Beatrice
Francesca

anxious2017 · 27/02/2018 14:33

Celeste.
Cosette.

I really am not a fan of Tristesse. It reminds me of the old Manic Street Preachers song, La Tristesse Duera.

LadyPug · 27/02/2018 14:33

What about Aurelia?

anxious2017 · 27/02/2018 14:33

Durera, sorry. My phone doesn't like French.

Also it's TristessE.

windchimesabotage · 27/02/2018 14:39

bevbrook you arent on your own!! I love Psyche and just ran it past my DH who also surprisingly loves it. Whether am actually brave enough to use it is another matter!

windchimesabotage · 27/02/2018 14:42

Love Celeste, Phaedra and Arabella.
My DH hates Celeste and Arabella though.

But Phaedra can go on the list!
Beatrice too.
