Twin name help!

TillyLucille · 20/02/2018 17:32

Hi! Our twin girls could make an appearance anyday now and we are still struggling on finalising their names! I've posted on a couple of other sites but we need all the help we can get lol.

We will be naming one of our girls Violet but we're still undecided on her sister's name. It will either be Darcey/Darcy or Penelope. Nicknames will be LettY (Violet), Cece (Darcey) and Penny or Poppy (Penelope)

We then have these full name options to chose from...

Violet Cecilia Terese & Penelope Margot Kate, Penelope Beatrix Kate or Penelope Winter Kate

Violet Cecilia Kate & Penelope Hazel Terese

Violet Penelope Kate & Darcey Ophelia Terese

Violet Penelope Terese & Darcey Aurora Kate or Darcey Aurora Caitlin

Which do you prefer; Darcey or Penelope? Also, which full names would you go with? We're not wanting matchy names for our girls but we would prefer for them to sound nice together and be similar in style.

A bit of background: We're using two middle names; one of our choice and our honor names, Kate and Terese. Using two middle names is set. Our surname is short, one syllable and begins with Y. Our surname has been very difficult to work with! We had settled on Violet and Aurora for first names since finding out we were having two girls, we then realised Aurora sounded awful with our surname. We then went through a very long list of potential names and decided on Cecilia to again have to give it up because of our surname. That left us with Penelope which we love and couldn't imagine not using somewhere now. Losing Cecilia, with the nickname Cece, was really tough however so we decided to play around with our other options and decided to either use it as Violet's middle name or debated using Felicity (Cici) or Darcey instead of Penelope. We recently gave up Felicity as it didn't work for us and with our other options. Ophelia is the middle name we always thought we'd use with Violet but bumped it for Cecilia when we couldn't use it as a first.

Sorry for that long winded post! Thank you so much for all your help.

@egg Sorry, I had no idea it actually tagged people. I was just trying to save time replying to all the crap on here plus I'm not used to this site. I find the others I use much easier to use than this which is good as they're the ones I'll be sticking to lol.

Thanks

Don't like Violet - I know a little girl called that whose little friends call her violin!at school and she absolutely hates it - but I really like Penelope Kate and Darcie Aurora. Love the grandmother's names being used.

TillyLucille · 21/02/2018 11:46

Sorry to anyone else I've accidentally tagged too... Just ignore me! I'm not going to be on here anyway. It's far too dramatic for my liking lol.

It’s no problem as I’ve enjoyed reading some of the responses! It’s a new thing I think as I didn’t know it worked like that either until I got an email. Twins are fab.

starkid · 21/02/2018 11:56

Ignoring the nicknames (as they might change once they come) I like:
Violet Cecilia Kate & Penelope Hazel Terese

Bye!

sexyegg · 21/02/2018 14:54

Dammit what will I lose sleep over now wah wah

sundowners · 22/02/2018 11:18

Just incase OP does come back, Violet is gorgeous but Letty so twee and sickly. Agree you cant impose nicknames.
I would go for Violet and Penny out of you other suggestion,s but sorry none are as lovely as Violet from your list, IMO.

Joeybee · 23/02/2018 05:25

Can I just say FANTASTIC name choices, all of them. I do not like Darcey, but all the other names and combos are lovely.
I think Violet Cecilia Kate & Penelope Hazel Terese flow the best, and Violet and Penelope are just such fantastic sibling names.

Good luck with the birth and congrats!

user1471552178 · 24/02/2018 18:24

Choose whichever names you want and like. Please don’t take the opinions of people/keyboard warriors on here to heart. Not everyone has the same taste...otherwise it would rather boring if we did. The name I chose for my little one is not a mumsnet liked name! However I always get compliments on how much people like her name, so it seems the opinions on here are not actually the view the real world has!!

Love Darcey Aurora Kate by the way Smile

photographyaddict · 24/02/2018 18:32

Violet Penelope Terese & Darcey Aurora Kate are lovely names :)

PinkFlamingo888 · 24/02/2018 19:05

Forgot what the first message was now but why is Mike always on every thread I read just to be nasty? Have an opinion, that’s fine but I don’t think I’ve ever seen you be constructive, and I’ve seen you a lot!

tillyluce · 24/02/2018 23:41

Well I did delete my account but I thought I'd check in to update and saw some people realising how unnecessary all that drama was the other day 😂 I guess some people have to do something to entertain themselves 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just to clarify...

There will be no imposing of nicknames. These are the NNs we'll be using for the simple reason that they're the ones we like best. Obviously we aren't going to throw a tantrum, á la Mike, if someone calls them something else but if us using Letty or even Ettie/Etta stops them from calling Violet, Vi then I won't lie and say I'd not be happy about it. You can call me pretentious over that fact if you like but I'd rather be pretentious than have a hobby that consists of judging strangers from behind a screen so it's all good lol.

I brought up NNs because I honestly think it's something to consider. If I was on here posting about using Violet and Charlotte then I'm sure I would be pulled up on being matchy because of the potential Letty and Lottie NNs. Perhaps the parents of the person who had their peers make fun out their names should have discussed the potential NNs beforehand. Seems like a better way of combating that problem rather than chosing to ignore NNs altogether until the children are born.

In regards to the 2 MNs; if we were to have had just the 1 child this time around then they would have had 2 middle names to use both grandma or grandpa's names. We intend on having more children in the future so it's likely we'll do this and we didn't want some having 2 MNs and others not. We asked people who we know who have 2 or used 2 for their LOs and they all said they had no problems with it. You don't tend to meet someone who introduces theirselves by their FN, MN and LN anyway lol.

As much as I appreciate that this is a public forum; I didn't ask for opinions on 2 middle names, NNs or the names themselves even. Feel free to state that you don't like them but just as I have to accept that, you have to accept me saying you're not changing my mind lol. You have the option to ignore the post or give constructive criticism. Even a "I personally wouldn't chose to use 2MNs but to answer the OP..." would have done. To go as far as labelling and judging a complete stranger, acting like they're ruining their children's lives with "you won't be the one living with it" comments and going on to negatively pick apart every name on my list says an awful lot more about you than it does the OP and their choices. The fact that you do that as a hobby? Well, I'd know I'd rather a parent who gave me 2 MNs than one who shows me it's ok to act that way... Behind the safety of a screen too lol. I wonder if you try to dress up your 'advice' as just being blunt and honest IRL? Probably not.

Sadly I've realised that this is what is done on here a lot which is why I won't be using this site not because I take what some losers that have nothing better to do than act 'witty' online to their 'internet friends' to heart lol. It says a lot when I post on a site that actually helps asking if this did come across as OTT, showy, aspirational, pretentious, etc and they all knew where it had come from and said how stupid these accusations were. I'll be sticking to people who know to either give advice, constructive criticism or to just move along if they don't like something.

Anyway, I was only back to thank those of you who did actually help and answer my OP ❤️ Our girls were born Thurs 22nd at 11:36 and 11:47 PM, weighing 6lbs 1oz and 5lbs 14oz. We went with Violet and Penelope as well as (gasp) 2 middle names! They're perfect and we're very happy with the beautiful names we've chosen for our beautiful babies.

Bye! 😘

tillyluce · 24/02/2018 23:53

Just to add, I think saying we are imposing a NN by using a particular one ourselves is stupid! It's just like saying I'm imposing their FNs onto people because it might not be what they'd have chosen to call them lol. We're choosing to use those NNs for now, they can change to suit them when they get older. Will you say that the girls will be imposing their chosen NNs on us if they wish to change them in the future? Pathetic! Sorry, but you did state your opinion on a public forum so it's up for debate 🤷🏼‍♀️

PinkFlamingo888 · 01/03/2018 23:17

Congratulations! Their names are both lovely!

deptfordgirl · 02/03/2018 03:20

Violet and Penelope are gorgeous. Not so keen on Darcey.

deptfordgirl · 02/03/2018 03:25

Oh just saw your last post! Yay! Congratulations. Lovely names and twin girls, how special!

Elmo303 · 02/03/2018 04:37

bridgetreilly · 02/03/2018 09:23

Violet Cecilia Terese & Penelope Margot Kate

Beautiful.

user1459464195 · 02/03/2018 09:50

Congratulations on your beautifully named twin girls Smile

tillyluce · 02/03/2018 10:18

Thanks guys! I can't believe they are a week old already. It's tiring stuff but so, so worth it!

They are Violet Cecilia Kate and Penelope Hazel Terese for those wondering what middle names we ended up going with... No 3rd middle or calling them by their full names though 😉😂

HotCrossBunFight · 02/03/2018 10:19

Well done OP!

Congrats on your lovely twins.

Regarding the nicknames thing, all 3 of my children go by a nickname rather than their birth certificate name. I supposed we have imposed them on the children Hmm but don't all parents?

userabcname · 02/03/2018 10:21

Congratulations OP! Beautiful names!

lovemylover · 02/03/2018 10:23

All names are nice,i love poppy just as a real name
Whatever you do though do have different initials,
I have twin boys,[well men now] but it has caused so much confusion as they got older. even with NI numbers and mail, and hospital appointments etc
