What does everybody think of the name Jason? Our middle name for a boy is going to be Orlando.

I think Jason is a middle aged man with a sister called Sharon - however I'm old enough to have laughed my arse off the first time I saw a newborn baby called Alfie and now grandma/grandpa names have been everywhere for nearly a decade. So the Jasons, Garys, Sharons and Carols will be coming back. You might be a trend setter!

PaperdollCartoon · 18/02/2018 19:38

I really like it but probably wouldn’t use it for the ‘common’ connotations Brendasumbrella alludes to. But I think it’s a lovely name and would like those connotations to change.

PaperdollCartoon · 18/02/2018 19:38

It’s from Greek mythology at the end of the day!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/02/2018 19:42

I don't like it on a personal, but it's not the worse name in the world, and It'll be a refreshing changes from all the Charlies Noah Harrys and Alfies

SpottyBrolly · 18/02/2018 20:08

I like the meaning and the Jason and the Argonaughts stories.

DramaAlpaca · 18/02/2018 20:09

I think it's quite sweet but very dated. The youngest one I know is in his early 20s.

RedPandaMama · 18/02/2018 20:10

I like it. It's unusual now! However I do think of Jason and Uncle Bryn and that fishing trip off Gavin and Stacey!

madeyemoodysmum · 18/02/2018 20:11

I love it. It's a nice sound It's biblical and mythical.
I also love Paul.

parrotonmyshoulder · 18/02/2018 20:11

I like it. DS has a similar name from the same sort of generation. He’s the only one in school.

Jammycustard · 18/02/2018 20:12

I put it in the same bracket as Kevin, Brian and Gary.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 18/02/2018 20:14

Too many broken hearts in the world.....

winterwednesday · 18/02/2018 21:10

Is it too dated? I think it sounds strong and classic. My top names for a girl are Iris and Ariadne, which are both increasing in popularity. Are they bad matches for sibling names?

Funny l know a grown guy called Jason with a sister called Sharon!! I like him but not that name for a baby...
When l started teaching over 30 years ago we had lots of Jasons but none recently.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 18/02/2018 21:16

Naming trends seem to go like this-

Parents generation = dated
Grandparents generation = trendy

Jason is creeping into "parents generation" category I think. It will be another 20 years or so before it picks up in popularity again.

/gavel/

Justgivemesomepeace · 18/02/2018 21:17

It was fine in 1976. It's goes with Darren, Gary, Lee and Colin.

pipilangstrumpf · 18/02/2018 21:29

Strangely, it does make a refreshing change from all the Archies, Charlies and Noahs.

I quite like it. It's strong sounding and easy to spell.

ScreamingValenta · 18/02/2018 21:33

I see it as a bit boring, but that's because there were so many in my generation.

lolalotta · 18/02/2018 21:37

Awful

Argeles · 18/02/2018 21:44

Jason Derulo.
Jason Donovan.

They are the people I think of instantly, and the name gives me an 80’s vibe.

Why not use Orlando as a first name? It’s lovely.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 18/02/2018 22:12

When I was young (I was born in the 70s) it was a bit "common". But now, I think it'd be fine. It does have a nice sound.

I went out with a Jason and he was absolutely adorable.

I'm not really helping...

CharisMater · 18/02/2018 22:15

like it. Refreshing.

RavenWings · 18/02/2018 22:39

Nice choice. Very refreshing from the zillions of Ollie/Noah/Alfie/Charlie etc names of the moment.

calzone · 18/02/2018 22:41

No

SuperBeagle · 18/02/2018 22:47

I think it's awful, honestly.

It's very outdated, and sounds foul screeched out in a bogan Australian accent and most Jasons are bogans

SpottyBrolly · 19/02/2018 08:12

I really like it. It's different but recognisable, and goes with your girl names.
