Charlie, Harley or now possibly James for DC2

NooNooHead1981 · 17/02/2018 23:16

I recently posted about how much my DH and I both like Charlie James for our DS due in June, and he is also quite keen on Harley (which I am not so fond of).

I'm now considering James as a first name, but my DH is against this as he feels it reminds him too much of my late DB who was called Jamie (christened James but always known as Jamie), and was a character, shall we say, whose life was pretty eventful. My DH is worried that if we name our son James, we might be somehow 'influencing' who he is/will be through association of the name... Hmm

Any suggestions on these names or any alternatives please?

Oh I love Charlie. If my daughter had been a boy she would've been Charlie.
Charlie James is lovely.

pipilangstrumpf · 18/02/2018 07:56

You shouldn't really consider James if your dh dislikes it, whatever his reason. Choose a name you both love.

userabcname · 18/02/2018 08:07

I think stick with Charlie James. I don't like Harley at all.

AuntieStella · 18/02/2018 08:09

Harley screeches 'motorbike' so unless you want that association, I'd stick with Charlie.

ShortandAnnoying · 18/02/2018 08:12

Stick with Charlie James as you prefer Charlie and he prefers James to be the middle name.

Xmamalovex · 18/02/2018 23:07

Charlie is lovely x

LoveInTokyo · 18/02/2018 23:24

I would probably go with Charles for the birth certificate and call him Charlie. James is lovely. Harley is awful.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 18/02/2018 23:27

Harley is awful, sorry. Charlie James is lovely, though I would use Charles on the birth certificate just to give him the option of a more formal/ traditional name when he's older.

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/02/2018 13:11

I like James best but your DH doesn't so it's not really a choice

Charlie is nice enough

I really dislike Harley, but your not keen either so it's not really a choice

FizzyGreenWater · 20/02/2018 14:27

Harley is really horrible. But you don't like it, so it's out.

James would look as if you are naming him after your brother. But he doesn't like it, so it's out.

The rule is that you both have to like - ideally love! - your own child's name. So it's Charlie or the drawing board!

If not James, how about Jonas?

If not Harley, how about Heath?

BlackberryandNettle · 20/02/2018 14:54

I like James the best, between the three names. Sorry to hear about your brother. This baby would be a completely new person of course but your dh would need to like it too.

NooNooHead1981 · 20/02/2018 15:37

Thank you everyone. I think my gut instinct is saying to stick with Charlie James, unless he pops out and looks like a different name! I've always liked James as a first name, but I do know what you mean about it looking like we are naming him after my DB. Also, it isn't a name that we both agree on, as PP have said.

What do you think about alternative names Harry or Alfie? And could we use either of these if there were cousins in the family with these names already? Hmm

Not sure about Jonas but I like Heath, and we are currently calling bump Herbert which I really like too... although I think I prefer the nn Herbie (but it does sound a bit twee).

Any suggestions as alternatives to Charlie?

Danny, Stevie, Teddy, Johnny, Sammy, Benny

NooNooHead1981 · 20/02/2018 16:39

Ooh, I like Teddy and Benny - both are lovely! Grin

My little boy is Charlie James so good choice OP 😊

Cirrys · 30/03/2018 23:54

I'd pick a proper name and use a nickname so your DS can choose whatever is appropriate as he grows up. Charlie is short for Charles, Alfie is short for Alfred, Harry is short for Henry. Harley is awful, I couldn't see an adult with that name in a professional career.

Sidney
Harvey
Billy

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 31/03/2018 08:34

I like Harry James best.😄
