Are these just names for dogs?

We have a nephew Rex. His mum said Max was a dogs' name!

Pinkbendyman · 17/02/2018 08:35

I know a whippet called Rufus 🙂

pipilangstrumpf · 17/02/2018 08:36

What's a whippet Confused

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 08:55

Rex and Rufus sound like posh names to me pupil I used to teach kids in a deprived part of London. Not too many Rexes or Rufuses there

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 08:56

pipil not pupil!

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 08:56

Max is an awful character in Eastenders

happytobemrsg · 17/02/2018 08:57

I thought of a dog too sorry OP. Rory is cute, as is Rafe

Pinkbendyman · 17/02/2018 09:20

A whippet is like a small greyhound

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 09:32

Raphael is beautiful. Rafe is another posh wanker name

MikeUniformMike · 17/02/2018 09:33

Dogs are called things like Alfie, Archie, Bertie and Stanley these days.

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 09:35

And therefore all horrid names for a boy Mike

soupforbrains · 17/02/2018 09:38

My boyfriend when I was in 6th form was called Rex. I don't have any issue with it as a name. I quite like it.

BUT whenever I mentioned him people ALWAYS thought I was talking about my dog, not my boyfriend.

I also don't much like Rufus. Rhymes with doofus and whilst I adore Rufus wainwright it makes me think of Rufus hound which I'm less keen on.

What about Ruben?

soupforbrains · 17/02/2018 09:39

Oh or one of my personal faves Rafferty? Raffy or Raff for short?

MikeUniformMike · 17/02/2018 09:39

They're not horrid but I wouldn't use them. Or Sebastian or Jadon, Jackson, Harrison etc.
I like Rex and Rufus but the OP had a point.

DogzBollox · 17/02/2018 10:24

You ok, Joystir59? Did you get out of the wrong side of bed this morning? You seem a bit cross about it? Thanks for popping along though.

Having read everyone’s comments I’m not convinced they’re the names for us. I don’t know what is though! I guess I’m wanting universal approval but that equals a different sort of name to the ones that appeal to me. Hmm. Back to the drawing board. Thanks all.

I don't like the name Ruben. I would spell it Reuben and definitely not Rueben. It seems wishy washy.

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 10:34

Lol! No I'm in a pretty good mood OP, just hate those snotty boys names. They sound like they belong to knobheadish men who would be a bit self obsessed and precious. I like Rufus Wainwright's music but hex a bit precious tbh. I prefer the music of his mum and aunt anyway.

pipilangstrumpf · 17/02/2018 10:42

Wow, Joystir59, really hope you don't pass your prejudices about names on to your children if you have any Shock

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 10:52

I have a son called Krishna. He is Indian and came to my life with that name.

KathyBates · 17/02/2018 10:58

Rufus Smile

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 11:00

Rory

SumAndSubstance · 17/02/2018 12:25

I love that joystir thinks all these names are posh wanker names except for Raphael, which is 'beautiful' Grin

Xmamalovex · 17/02/2018 12:28

Love Rex

Laniakea · 17/02/2018 12:34

ha! I have a 6yo Rufus Grin ... all my kids have posh wanker names that was actually one of my naming criteria Wink

I have a suspicion it might become popular though.

TulipsInABlueVase · 17/02/2018 12:38

Love Rex. Rufus is 100% a dog's name.
