Struggling with boys names!

We've never had a problem picking a girls name. But boys are another story...
We've managed to shortlist to

Arthur
Sebastian
Alexander but to be called 'Xander' or 'Alec'

Middle name would definitely be William

And we've also toyed with Rufus though it's maybe dropped back onto the long list!

I love Xander and one advantage is it doesn’t tend to get shortened, Sebastian would almost certainly end up as Seb. Arthur is nice but I know so many!
Other names I like are

Euan
Conal
Joseph
Fraser

Sophronia · 16/02/2018 15:34

I love Alec, so Alexander William.

GreasyHairDoNotCare · 16/02/2018 15:34

Arthur is definitely my favourite

Evangelinedream · 16/02/2018 15:41

Alexander nn Xander is my favourite - it’s a lovely classic name that I don’t think will date as much as the others

pipilangstrumpf · 16/02/2018 15:51

Rufus and Arthur are lovely and don't need shortening.

Sebastian may end up as Sebbie or BastyShock

Alexander is ok but may end up as Alex. There are lots of boy and girl Alexes so a little dull maybe.

daisypond · 16/02/2018 15:59

Alexander is my favourite. Arthur and Sebastian are OK, but I would hate it if Sebastian ended up as Seb or Sebbie as a nickname.

userabcname · 16/02/2018 16:03

Alexander William for sure

TulipsInABlueVase · 16/02/2018 16:17

Love Sebastian and Alexander. Hate Arthur.

boatrace30 · 16/02/2018 17:25

Thanks everyone. I think we've maybe shortened down to Arthur or Alexander. Could be the final decision waits till the baby is here (and it might not even be a boy!)

Hi boatrace30, we've chatted on another thread! Funnily, both Arthur and Sebastian are on my boys shortlist. My only concern has been that Arthur is a favourite for the next royal baby name so that would probably sway my decision in the end. Having said that, wait and see what suits the baby when he/she arrives :)

As we clearly have similar tastes ;) can I be cheeky and ask what names you have on your girls long list? We have really struggled with girls names, so far we have considered Edith and Margot but I am not sure I am sold on either!

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 16/02/2018 17:51

Arthur is lovely. I like Sebastian too, but see you’ve eliminated that one.

I like Alexander, but it’s become really popular where I live, which makes it seem a bit blah now. I also can’t stand Xander as a shortening. It’s just a horrible sound to my ear. Alec is ok, but maybe a little dated. I like Alex and Sandy is cool too, especially if you’re in Scotland!

QueenB14 · 16/02/2018 17:53

Alexander Smile

ChocolateCrunch · 16/02/2018 17:54

Arthur

Ickyockycocky · 16/02/2018 17:55

Alexander William is really lovely, or Alec for short.

PinkAvocado · 16/02/2018 17:56

Alexander is lovely. Arthur isn’t. It seems popular enough on here but it is such a miserable and murky sounding name to me.

MikeUniformMike · 16/02/2018 17:58

Alec is great. Xander is not.
Arthur is ok.

MammieBear · 16/02/2018 18:10

Alexander for sure from your list.

boatrace30 · 16/02/2018 23:00

Hi @cinderrose - of course! Girls name will be either Alice or Elizabeth. Our DD is Florence (a name we were set in before she was conceived). We're a bit stuck on whether to go Alice Elizabeth or Elizabeth Alice!

We've also like Emmeline, Clara and Meredith. But have ruled them all out for now.

Hate Arthur
Like the others

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/02/2018 07:13

💙 Alec.

Barre · 17/02/2018 07:13

I like them all! -helpful-

How about Alistair/Alastair for something similar to both of your shortlisted names but a bit more distinctive?

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 07:15

Ruth or Joy for a girl

wetrebecca · 17/02/2018 07:24

I know a Xander. He's a very cool little boy. It gets shortened to X but that's all.

They're all lovely names though.

pilates · 17/02/2018 07:38

Alexander William
Prefer Xander to Alec
