Be honest: would this get an eyeroll?

Thinking of middle name Guinevere for future DD. First name will be a short, simple, normal name.

Honestly, if you read that birth announcement, would you be Hmm?

I was at school with a Guinevere. She was known as Gwen.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/02/2018 21:35

How is it pronounced.

splendide · 11/02/2018 21:36

No not at all - I think middle names are a total free for all

Barre · 11/02/2018 21:36

Pronounced “gwin-i-veer”

It's a middle name, you can do what you like

ShimmeringIce · 11/02/2018 21:38

Nope, it’s a real name, lovely!

Barre · 11/02/2018 21:38

Love Gwen Schadenfreude — I fancied it as a first name but DH not keen Sad

I like it as a first name. Also, I wouldn’t roll my eyes at middle names-it’s the chance to go wild.

Barre · 11/02/2018 21:38

Yay, thank you!

I'd be really impressed.

Anna Guinevere
Lucy Guinevere
Amy Guinevere
Cara Guinevere

... all lovely. No eye rolling here!

Callamia · 11/02/2018 21:38

Who cares? It’s a middle name - you could be naming her in honour of a much-loved relative/historical figure or guinea pig - it’s your business.

One of my children has a name that isn’t a name for his middle name, but it means something to us, and he never needs to use it, so i don’t feel too awful about it.

BikeRunSki · 11/02/2018 21:39

I wouldn’t bat an eyelid

MMcanny · 11/02/2018 21:39

No.

MMcanny · 11/02/2018 21:40

It’s lovely.

FizzyGreenWater · 11/02/2018 21:44

Lovely.

Middle names, anything goes

BroomstickOfLove · 11/02/2018 21:45

It's fine.

NewYearNiki · 11/02/2018 22:01

No not at all.

But if you're worried Genevieve is nice too.

Petalflowers · 11/02/2018 22:33

Love it as first or middle name.

NotAnotherEmma · 12/02/2018 21:13

It's a nice middle name.

LilaBlue · 12/02/2018 21:21

My best friend is called Guinevere, it's a lovely name

MikeUniformMike · 12/02/2018 21:23

I like it and much prefer it to Genevieve, which AFAIK isn't related.
The welsh for Guinivere is Gwenhwyfar, and there is one here on MN.
I think that Gaenor/Gaynor is a form of it too.

floriad · 12/02/2018 21:32

Lovely.

I also like Gwenhwyfar. :)

Thistlebelle · 12/02/2018 21:34

It’s fine as a first name too. Pretty awesome middle name.

MikeUniformMike · 12/02/2018 21:37

I know a Gwenhwyfar and it's pretty. Would probably be mispronounced or misspelt though. She is usually called Gwen.
The Cornish form is much easier. Jennifer.

MikeUniformMike · 12/02/2018 21:40

I might be wrong re Guinivere and Genevieve not being the same. I think they might be similar but not necessarily the same.
