He can’t be serious?

We are expecting our first dd in 6 weeks and we literally agree on no names, we’ve been together 6 years and rarely argue but this has been a massive issue for us. DH really like the names Asia and India and Paris, he is generally obsessed with naming her after a place or country, I really like Sienna, Paige and Lily. He suggested having one of his names as a first name and one of mine as a middle but they don’t even go together. I said we should have a first and middle name that we both love but now he won’t even talk to me about it? Anyone been through this?

Chelsea is awful.

How about Sicily?

scotchpie · 11/02/2018 21:13

India is lovely, it's goes well with Lily & Paige (your surname)

RaeCJ82 · 11/02/2018 21:14

What about Madison James? I like James for a boy. I love it for a girl!

MsHomeSlice · 11/02/2018 21:14

bluerabbit ..I thought you said Viennetta! :o

are we considering foodstuffs now? :o

BookHelpPlease · 11/02/2018 21:15

Vienna makes me think of ultravox.

If its having his surname then you definitely get to pick first name!

BewareOfDragons · 11/02/2018 21:15

Don't change your name!

Tell him you want the baby to have your surname. You will be her mother, after all.

And if you don't like the name, don't use it.

It sounds like he's being a bit ridiculous, tbh. A 'place name' just because ... no attachment, no meaning ... Hmm

Tell him to think outside his little box.

willdoitinaminute · 11/02/2018 21:20

I’m not a big fan of placenames for children. I always wonder how many Italian or Spanish children end up with Barnsley, Anglesey or Birmingham.
I love Lily though.

Some UK geography suggestions: Devon, Iona, Rona, Alisa, Paisley, Marlow

upsideup · 11/02/2018 21:27

I like Vienna (and Asia, India and Paris actually)

ladybirdsaredotty · 11/02/2018 21:35

Wow, I would not be pandering to 'it has to be a place name' Hmm Sod that. Choose a name you both like!

floriad · 11/02/2018 21:38

I really don't like Chelsea.

And Chelsea James is imo even worse.

You could also hyphenate your surname.

Or let him pick the surname and let you pick the first name...

AdalindSchade · 11/02/2018 21:40

Chelsea James Confused

What about Roma? Blanca (casa-)? Iona, Skye?

Shirleytemple55 · 11/02/2018 21:49

Ok so dh not very happy but we have settled on Lily India Grace (he wanted 2 middle names if he couldn’t have his 1st choice of first name). Thanks FizzyGreenWater very good advice. 🙂

I like Lily India Grace.

It's much nicer than Chelsea James... That name is genuinely... weird imo Confused

FlopsyMcDoodle · 11/02/2018 22:32

Yay! I’m so glad you’ve chosen a name (and a lovely one too). Not enough people on baby name thread update with what they actually chose.

MiniAlphaBravo · 11/02/2018 22:43

Lovely name and good compromise- seems like men get the surname and first name too often somehow!

DextroDependant · 11/02/2018 22:44

I preferred India Lily as Lily is very popular around here but it is still a lovely name.

BewareOfDragons · 11/02/2018 22:46

TBH, OP, your DH sounds like a big, fucking baby. He had to pick 2 middle names if he couldn't be the deciding vote on your DD's first name?

The baby won't be his; it will be both of yours. Hopefully he'll grow up before the actual baby arrives.

MrsEricBana · 11/02/2018 22:50

Really obvious point probably but do check that first name + surname really works. With one of our dc we were fixated on XYZ but actually the middle name is rarely spoken and XZ is perfectly nice but a bit plain as we have a short surname.
Your choice is pretty and covers both your preferences pretty well. Yay!

FizzyGreenWater · 11/02/2018 22:55

😁 Well done OP.

He really is a child, isn't he?

Ok, so four names and three are his/his choice? How so?

Tell him one middle name or your surname is double barrelled 😁

WhereIsBlueRabbit · 11/02/2018 23:45

Very pretty name! (Although I'm secretly peeved you didn't give serious consideration to, with credit to MsHomeSlice, Viennetta Grin)

mummytwoh · 12/02/2018 00:14

I think you've chosen a lovely name.
You are very good for giving into so many of your parents demands. We are currently naming our 4 week old baby boy - well deciding his middle name. I want us both to be happy but I definitely get the last say. When his vagina gets torn and stitch he can decide
