Do you know any? Are they male or female? How old are they?

Thank you !

I quite like it. It's pronounced Ree-gun not Ray-gun.
I'd like to meet a family with DC called Bush, Trump and Nixon.

PaperdollCartoon · 11/02/2018 12:39

It can also be pronounced Ray-gun and plenty of people say it that way

MikeUniformMike · 11/02/2018 12:45

I wouldn't know any of that sort of people.

84CharingCrossRoad · 11/02/2018 12:51

Reminds me of an unpleasant female character in the pilot episode of Lewis.

daisypond · 11/02/2018 12:56

I'm afraid I think of King Lear's evil daughter first and then The Exorcist second. But I don't know anyone called Regan in real life, apart from a girl at school whose surname it was. What about Tegan? That has a similar look. I know someone called this. It's Welsh.

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 11/02/2018 13:13

It should never be pronounced Ray-gn, that's a different name. This came up on active threads, never looked at this board before and I won't again. Bad associations with a name is one thing and I totally get that, each to their own

RavenWings · 11/02/2018 15:03

Wow! Lots of nasty comments. There's many names I absolutely loathe but I'm not sure I'd be so harsh. Hope my child doesn't meet any of you

Oh stop making it all about about your specific child, nobody here knows them. It's just an opinion on a name. No name on the planet is going to get universal approval.

OP I know a 9 year old female Regan (ree-gn) and don't like the name at all. I associate it with Lear or the US President.

DullAndOld · 11/02/2018 15:07

absolutely horrible, Regan and Goneril from King Lear? the evil grasping sisters of Cordelia?

DullAndOld · 11/02/2018 15:08

and as it is really a surname with various pronunciations, you can say it how you like. Just please don't call your daughter this.

MikeUniformMike · 11/02/2018 15:33

Quite. People are judgemental about names. Your name is part of your 'brand'.
When you give your child a name, that becomes their label. If it has bad connotations, or is odd, hard to spell or say, it can make life difficult.
You will be judged on your name, whether you like it or not.

The US president was Reagan.

FizzyGreenWater · 11/02/2018 17:12

Nasty comments are part of what folk come here for!

The brutal honesty you won't get from friends or family. Associations you may not have thought of.

Such as calling your daughter after the character in the Exorcist. Or indeed, perhaps even Ray-Gun.

I prefer Ray-Gun.

CherryBliss · 11/02/2018 17:45

All pronounced Ree-gn

2 boys (8yo spelt Reagan, 4yo boy spelt Regan)
1 girl spelt Reegan

DullAndOld · 11/02/2018 17:47

I don't even know anyone who would call their daughter 'Regan' tbh.

JennyHolzersGhost · 11/02/2018 17:48

Better than Goneril at least !

whoareyoukidding · 11/02/2018 17:51

Another vote for saying it reminds me of Lear, and The Sweeney : 'I'm Regan - you're nicked' said in that rough accent.

Antigonads · 11/02/2018 17:54

My DD is named after the nice daughter

DullAndOld · 11/02/2018 17:55

my cat is called Antigone...:)

DullAndOld · 11/02/2018 17:57

seriously a name like this brings out my raging inner snob.
Have they not fucking read King Lear...?
no probably not.
but 'Regan' or 'Reegan' for a lovely little girl?
it is akin to child abuse.

ShowOfHands · 11/02/2018 17:59

There is an advert for King Lear at the top of my screen!

I think of the terrible King Lear character. She was truly vile.

PinkAvocado · 11/02/2018 18:01

My initial thought was it is a boy’s name but the only one I know is from King Lear so not sure why I thought that.

I have asked for opinions on names on here (under a different user name) and I wanted the blunt comments-they give a perspective close friends wouldn’t necessarily and make you realise connotations you maybe wouldn’t have.

MrsXx4 · 11/02/2018 18:02

I work with one. He is male and awful! I liked the name before I knew him though.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/02/2018 18:11

I must say, the association with The Sweeney is a very positive one for me, as a child of the 70s.

Regan
MikeUniformMike · 11/02/2018 18:37

Me too. Get yer trousers on, yer nicked!

MikeUniformMike · 11/02/2018 18:38

Regan could have a sidekick sibling called Carter.
