Yet to find out what we are having but my gut instinct is a girl. Boys name for us was simple and we have decided on Cole.
I like short girl names so far
Cara
Lara
Luna
Leah
Hope
Aria
Libby
Lana

Nothing has stood out so far and second name will be Smith so looking for something that fits and would like something that is not too popular.

T.I.A for any suggestions

Amy means "Worthy of love"

shortcake85 · 06/02/2018 21:19

Love Amy and Emily for short names or Kami.

Stacy07 · 06/02/2018 21:51

Cara was one of my favourites but DP has just announced its one of his cousins names so we can’t use it!

He’s suggesting Mya but spelt Maya?? I hadn’t seen his spelling before and I’m not overly excited by it

Maya is how I think it is spelled- like Maya Angelou. I used to know a Maya, spelled like that. You can also spell it Maia (just to add in more variations!)

I think Maya is a lovely name.

Stacy07 · 06/02/2018 23:19

I like Maya but I feel it’s too simple maybe, I’m not sure why it’s not feeling like the one! Feel like it needs something extra! He did say he liked Ayla but seems set on Maya!

Thank you, I had only ever known the spelling Mya. Not to admit to DP he was right and I was wrong lol

Ayla is pronounced A-lar, its celiac for little hurricane. It was a name we looked at. It's a sweet name. Nova is lovely too. I like Nova as a first name :)

Stacy07 · 07/02/2018 16:57

Little hurricane sounds about right lol.
DP is head strong 🙈 he seems set on Maya! How silly does Ayla Maya Smith sound if I manage to talk him into a compromise? X

Or Maya in general as a middle name? Really a middle name I’d have liked something that was tribute to someone in our family as that is usual tradition in our family but open to what people think?

Getoutofthatgarden · 07/02/2018 17:35

How silly does Ayla Maya Smith

Sorry but the first two names are too similar and it's a bit of a tongue twister.

Stacy07 · 07/02/2018 17:38

Thought so myself. Thanks

If you like Cole for a boy because of name significance, what about Nicole for a girl?

Getoutofthatgarden · 08/02/2018 10:13

speakfriendandenter

Nicole is a beautiful name. I wanted it for DD but it just didn't work with our surname.

BabloHoney · 08/02/2018 10:54

GetOut - I absolutely love Nicole too but it doesn't work with our surname either, rubbish.

I like short names too - all the ones on your list are lovely - how about Cassie, Heidi, Erin, Freya, Bonnie, Astrid.

FartnissEverbeans · 08/02/2018 15:39

How about Amaya instead of Maya? I know one and I think it's beautiful

Stacy07 · 08/02/2018 15:44

I like the idea of Nicole to include the Cole part but personally the name doesn’t stand out for me xx

Alma, Nora, Tara, Mina, Ada, Lena, Lotta, Etta, Flora, Ida, Juno, Tessa, Leda, Lina, Mia, Rosa, Una, Ulla, Thea, Margot, Poppy, Posey, Dana, Viva, Yara, Leona, Aelia, Vela, Vera, Penny, Holly, Zara, Sadie, Rory, Tansy, Xanthe.

Ada is lovely, btw.

Stacy07 · 18/02/2018 10:40

DPs new suggestion is Millie. Don’t know how I feel about it, I think it’s cute but I don’t know if it’s the one.

OP posts:
Tunic · 18/02/2018 10:54

Anya
Lila
Zara

Cosmoa · 18/02/2018 11:11

If you like Ayla there is also Aella pr Ae-Ella which is the name if my friends little girl. I think it's so pretty!! Xx

Cosmoa · 18/02/2018 11:14

Also my DP suggested Maya to me yesterday also! It's quite popular though.. It was in the top 40 last year!

Personally I love 'Ayla Maya'.. We're considering 'Marley Maya' which some might think sounds of but I love it Smile

Cosmoa · 18/02/2018 11:15

Sorry I meant some may think it sounds odd*

LoveInTokyo · 18/02/2018 12:19

These names are good.

Smith is a hard surname to match with because it’s so common so you don’t really want a very common first name as well but a really unusual one could sound a bit strange with Smith. I also think that if your surname has one syllable then a first name with two or more syllables sounds better.

Louisa Smith is lovely.

What about:

Anna Smith
Sophie Smith
Greta Smith
Amy/Aimee Smith
Clara Smith
Rosa Smith
Dana Smith
Chloe Smith
Flora Smith
Hannah Smith
Jasmine Smith
Lucia Smith
Violet Smith
April Smith
Rebecca Smith (slightly longer but I really like this one)
Alexa Smith
Maria Smith

Hope you find something you like.

Xmamalovex · 18/02/2018 12:33

Alba
Lily
Cora
Belle

Stacy07 · 18/02/2018 13:04

Thanks very much, definitely some names to discuss with DP.

Think I also like Ayla Maya still although others might not agree but dp doesn’t want a “meaningless” middle name or one at all really now! Although Millie would be after his grandmother so maybe I could convince to have this as the middle name if we ever come up with anything we agree on! Maya is growing on me, Millie I like but not sure about when grown up (although I clearly didn’t think about this for DS) or if it is quite the one.

Love so many of those names so thank you x
