DP suggested this today out of the blue. What do you think? We'd probably shorten to Gerry but also Ged is a possibility.

Gerald The Giraffe is one my my favourite children's books.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/02/2018 09:12

Gerald is no worse than Arthur, Oscar, Archie imo

Grin yeah whatever.

BakedBeans47 · 04/02/2018 09:14

Gerald is no worse than Arthur

I agree with that.Arthur is revolting and inexplicably popular.

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/02/2018 09:20

Not a fan but i do really like the very similar Gerard nn Ged

karenah73 · 04/02/2018 09:24

Gerald (Gerry) is my late fathers name and part of me regrets not giving my son it as his middle name. I allowed too many comments at the time, about ‘saddling a baby with such a horrid name’, influence my decision.
I don’t actually think it’s that bad and hearing it reminds me of the wonderful man my dad was.

FrancinePefko · 04/02/2018 09:28

I think a baby boy with the name Gerald would be the cutest thing ever.

k2p2k2tog · 04/02/2018 09:48

Well, it's different. Gerry or Jerry sounds a bit better but agree that Gerald probably isn't ready for a comeback quite yet.

It's still better than Balonz. Or something like Freddyreek-Amazing.

ladybirdie26 · 04/02/2018 10:57

It reminds me of a giraffe but kinda cute x

villainousbroodmare · 04/02/2018 12:09

Very nerdy imo. Gerard is marginally better. Ger or Gerry are fine but would be odd as a bc name.

SwedishEdith · 04/02/2018 12:15

I don't love Gerald (or Gerard) but I love Gerry. Or Jerry but you'd have to go with Jeremy then, I think.

Thehairthebod · 04/02/2018 12:31

Gerald:

In his 60s
Is a retired accountant
Married to Janet
Likes cruises
Best friend from the golf club is called Roy
Possibly has pampas grass in his front garden

It's a no from me.

WhatKatyDidnt · 04/02/2018 13:26

A Guy Called Gerald. I like it.

Kokeshi123 · 04/02/2018 23:32

No, no, no.

Seconding Jerome--for some reason, it looks and sounds completely different.

Kpo58 · 05/02/2018 04:22

I think that Jerome is bit of a chavvy name.

Choccyhobnob · 05/02/2018 09:42

What about Joel?

SpottyBrolly · 05/02/2018 21:51

Thanks all. After a bit of research it turns out there are quite a few animals called Gerald; elephant, giraffe x 2, sea lion and gorilla. Also I'm not too keen on the meaning. So I don't think a goer.
