What are your thoughts on Victoria? I'm looking for a classic, timeless name but I'm terrible at making decisions so wanted some opinions/help or other classic name suggestions.

Victoria is lovely.I dislike Vicky, but do like Tori.

I love the name Victoria!

Namechanger4768 · 03/02/2018 18:08

I love the name Victoria.
Of the Victoria's I know, two are known as 'Vicky' and the other two are 'Tori'. The Vicky's are both over 30, I think it was more common then to be Vicky.
The Tori's are both under 30.

Charsimam I know what you mean when you say that Victoria is not timeless". It's a relatively recent newcomer, compared to the vastly older, long-standing names on the OP's list, but Queen Victoria has given it some (a lot) of extra weight, I think. But I suppose the name was "invented" for her. I've never heard of another, earlier one.

Meemzinha · 03/02/2018 18:23

Not too fond.. And Tori just makes me think of the Conservative party so don't like that either!

MrsHathaway · 03/02/2018 18:28

I've never heard of another, earlier one.

I've a feeling it was also her mother's name. But she was forrin so it may well have been new to the UK when she arrived.

daisypond · 03/02/2018 18:32

MrsH yes, of course, that's right. Thank you. Maybe it was more common on the Continent, or was spelled Viktoria as well.

MrsHathaway · 03/02/2018 18:47

That's a point - nearly all the Victorias I've encountered recently have Polish heritage and are spelt Wiktoria.

AndyJune · 03/02/2018 19:04

(NC) I'm a 1971 Victoria - I have quite a few friends similarly aged who are Vicky or Vicki - but I have always been Victoria and actually love the name in its full version.

TurquoiseDress · 03/02/2018 20:15

I know of an adult Victoria who goes by the nn Vix

ReggaetonLente · 03/02/2018 20:17

I love it. I know a baby Victoria and her mum calls her Vivi. It’s cute.

fluffypenguinbelly · 03/02/2018 20:20

I have a good friend called Victoria. Or Vic. Never Vicky. Parents always insisted on Victoria and she corrects anyone that says Vicky back to Victoria.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 03/02/2018 20:25

Vivi is lovely.

Kokeshi123 · 04/02/2018 23:33

You could try Tora as a nickname.....

Panting · 04/02/2018 23:36

Has a harsh sound to me, and I dislike the nicknames. Also quite dated without being classic.

Belindabauer · 05/02/2018 00:44

I like it.

meettherussians · 05/02/2018 08:39

Stuffy, not particularly feminine and plain, sorry just being honest.
