Arabella?

I love the name Arabella, have done since I was about 15, but I’m not keen on the association with the Arctic Monkeys song. I like the band but somewhat dislike the fact that people might think i’m naming my child after a song. Thoughts? (do most people associate it with the song?)

I think it is quite posh sounding but you can tone it down with Belle.

It makes a refreshing change to Isabella and no, never made the association with the song you mention.

Do not get the 'too posh'. Arabella is a beautiful, feminine name. What makes a name too posh? What if the OP had asked about Britney-Jo, Kylie, Sharon, Tracey?

I wouldn't worry about it.. It's just a song! And they're not famous enough that people will remember that fact, or even know who Arctic monkeys are when she's is older!

It's also the name of my friends daughter who is 2-3 and as far as I know it doesn't get mentioned. She gets called Bella a lot anyway :-)

I love the name. It was very high on the list for DC2 (who turned out to be a boy anyway!).

Weirdly, the Arctic Monkeys song made me like it more (although it didn't introduce me to the name... I already liked it) - it gives it a really cool edge and takes it away from the posh girl, slightly Sloany associations that I couldn't quite shake. I mean, she's a seriously cool chick in the song... Her lips are like the galaxy's edge, ffs.

And when it was a contender for us, nobody I knew had heard the song anyway.

I'm not keen. A but too frilly and princessy for my tastes. Completely see why others would like it though, just not to my taste.

I think it’s a pretty name. And the girl in the AM songs is pretty bad ass in my opinion, only makes me like the name more

Never heard of the song. Arabella is fine - a bit too frilly for my taste, but it's a nice name.
