And why (if a reason comes to mind)

Walter is just awful. Stanley is marginally less awful. So I'd go for Stanley.

pipilangstrumpf · 24/01/2018 21:17

Walter or Wally is much better than William or Willy!

pilates · 24/01/2018 21:19

Stanley

mumof22017 · 24/01/2018 21:21

windchimesabotage · 24/01/2018 21:21

Walter!! I love it!!

Vibe2018 · 24/01/2018 21:46

Both awful, sorry. Think how a child might feel as a teenager etc - they are the ones who have to live with it.

Xanadu44 · 24/01/2018 21:51

Stanley! Lush! Walter was Walter the softie from the beano. I don't know if he's still in it. You want want to check!

Battleax · 24/01/2018 21:52

I love Stanley. I also like Walter for having Wat (Tyler), Wal, and Walt shortenings. Surprisingly flexible.

greendale17 · 24/01/2018 21:53

Neither

sourpatchkid · 24/01/2018 21:55

I love Stanley but it's very popular right now

Mammatron · 24/01/2018 21:55

Stanley! Love it!

SuperBeagle · 24/01/2018 21:56

Stanley.

I was having a discussion with my mother the other day and we both agreed that all of the Walters we've known have been arseholes.

fitbitbore · 24/01/2018 22:05

I prefer Walter

mum2be2boys · 24/01/2018 22:11

My wonderful grandfather was called Walter. He hated it though and was known as his middle name.

For that reason I'd pick Stanley. I know it's apparently very popular but I have never met any in real life.

LexieLulu · 24/01/2018 22:46

I love Stanley, but it is a name that has been passed down in my family so I'm quite used to it now.

It gives the person the option to refer to themselves as Stan if they wish too

rebelrosie12 · 25/01/2018 19:53

I love Walter!!! Awesome name. I know two, one was nn Walt and the other waltie (hate that though)

MikeUniformMike · 25/01/2018 19:55

Norman

Joinourclub · 25/01/2018 19:57

I love Stan(ley)

stocksund13 · 25/01/2018 19:59

I love them both and as a teenager would have loved to have gone out with a Stanley or a Walter...

But...you need to go with a name you love and if you're not sure, then think again!

yikesanotherbooboo · 25/01/2018 20:53

Both have a similar vibe in my opinion and are fine. There are loads of Stanleys around but I haven't met a little Walter yet. They are both steady manly names that are easy to spell and pronounce!
I would err towards Walter

pipilangstrumpf · 25/01/2018 23:01

Walter!

Inthedeepdarkwinter · 25/01/2018 23:06

I know a youngish Stanley.

They both have that retro vibe, but as everyone says, Stanley is more popular of the two.

Similar names are Herbert (Bert) and Cecil.

It's not a vibe I'd go down myself (I prefer names like James, even David if we were going classic) but it is a popular one.

codswallopandbalderdash · 25/01/2018 23:10

neither

GinnyJumperoo · 25/01/2018 23:16

I'm not usually a fan of the old man names.

But the unmumsy mum just called her new baby Wilf. And I absolutely love it 😍 please call him Wilf. Little Wilfie.

jaykay34 · 25/01/2018 23:18

Stanley is my favourite name, and is my youngest son's middle name (DH vetoed it for first name !).

It is becoming more common, and I've come across quite a few little Stanley's recently.
