Cillian

I adore the name Cillian but wondered if I can really use it when firstly, we aren’t Irish and secondly, it’s got the word “Kill” in it (bit strange?) but the biggest issue of all is that our surname also starts with C and has double L in it - think the same surname as a popular vampire book series! What does everyone think? Boys names are hard!

What about Sulien?

thehairyhog · 23/01/2018 20:12

Love Cillian and know a little one, and love alliterative names, but Cillian Cullen is a no even for me, I’m afraid!

Jessbow · 23/01/2018 21:06

Not a name I have ever come across, subsequently no idea how to pronounce it.

Struck me as ''Silly 'un'' ( Silly one!)

harrietm87 · 23/01/2018 21:32

@Jessbow it's pronounced with a hard C - Kill-ee-an. Nothing like silly one.

Meemzinha · 24/01/2018 17:34

It's almost like you'd be saying 'Kill Ian'..

A know someone is naming their boy Kilyan which is super similar but didn't make me think 'Kill Ian'

How about Cilyan?

pipilangstrumpf · 24/01/2018 17:43

I like it a lot!

LadyPug · 24/01/2018 18:34

Haha kill Ian! Yes it is like that isn’t it? I don’t like anything else at all and I just adore the name. I wonder if I can change our surname instead! 😂

You can't name your son Cillian Cullen just because Cillian Murphy is really hot Grin

DwangelaForever · 24/01/2018 18:53

I love the name Cillian! I'm from Belfast but where I'm from I can't give my child an Irish name and I'm pure gutted about it! I love it so much!

LadyPug · 24/01/2018 18:54

Haha why not julianna it’s the only name I likeeeeeeee!!!

OP posts:
DwangelaForever · 24/01/2018 18:56

Could you give him a middle name to break it up?

Cillian James Cullen

Cillian Murphy Cullen (😂 peaky blinders addict)

DrivinHomeForXmas · 24/01/2018 19:09

Cillian Shelby Cullen? Grin

I do actually think Cillian Cullen sounds ok, I would go with it if you love it!

NinonDeLenclos · 24/01/2018 19:41

Cillian Cullen sounds a bit like Cilly and Cully.

LadyPug · 24/01/2018 19:56

Hehe Cillian You Didn’t Marry Me But Named My Son After You Anyway Cullen 😂

OP posts:
harrietm87 · 24/01/2018 22:02

@Meemzinha because Cilyan isn't a real name and everyone would think she just couldn't spell Cillian?! And it's presumably pronounced exactly the same way anyway?!

@DwangelaForever I'm from Belfast too and know what you mean! You should go for it anyway though - put the past behind us!

OP what about Fionn?

Meemzinha · 24/01/2018 22:37

@harrietm87

Haha no names were 'real name's' once upon a time!! I only suggested that as my friend like Kilyan and I thought it was similar to Cillian so I merely made a suggestion...

Meemzinha · 24/01/2018 22:44

Aside from the Kill Ian aspect that I mentioned... I think the alliteration makes it worth it! And if you love it.. Go for it!

In the end... The People who will love and know him will like the name because it's his name and that's that! It's always good to get opinions.. They help you decide how you personally feel about the name!

Good luck... I'm due in May and have a feeling I'll give birth to a nameless baby girl haha! Me and her daddy and struggling to settle... It's hard work!

dontcallmelen · 26/01/2018 18:22

Hi Op, are you sure you don’t have some Irish heritage somewhere? Cullen is a fairly popular Irish surname, I have relatives from Cork with the surname Cullen.

RavenWings · 26/01/2018 18:26

I was thinking that too about Irish heritage - I'm Irish and know a lot of Cullens!

LadyPug · 26/01/2018 18:31

I don’t know that we have Irish heritage, I think DH might have had an Irish auntie but it doesn’t feel close enough eg not parents. To be fair, my main issue is just how silly the names might sound with the C and double L

OP posts:
Meemzinha · 26/01/2018 18:56

@LadyPug

That's the best bit! The double ll's in each name made it sound great. Like Peter Parker...

I was saying to someone in work today that dome alliterated names some cooler than others, and Cillian Cullen is one of them for sure!

Who cares if you're Irish. Most Sarah's aren't Hebrew! I'm giving our daughter a Hawai'in name and a Persian middle name. She will have a slight bit of Persian blood but that's a coincidence... I would have pick the names anyway (Kaimana Azula)

Meemzinha · 26/01/2018 18:59

@LadyPug sorry that was really badly written! I meant to say some alliterated names are cooler than others.. And who cares if you're not Irish...

You can tell it's Friday haha..

HumpHumpWhale · 26/01/2018 19:04

What about Cian? Similar-ish Irish name. Pronounced like Ian with a k in front of it.
Cillian Cullen sounds fine to me though. And someone in your family is Irish if that's your surname

Emilybrontescorsett · 27/01/2018 11:14

I'm the same as you op. I like the name but don't like the kill sound in it.
