Writing for a friend. She loves the name Emory but is struggling with a middle name. She was playing around with ‘Emory summer’ but she would like some other options. Also she would like to know if it is spelt better Emery. Any suggestions welcome.

Is this for a girl or boy, OP?
I knew a male Emory born about 1910.

Lol, I would never dissuade any one from unusual names. We both heard it several times in different American shows and she fell in love with it. My kids both have unusual names. Love how all the traditionalists come out with think about when they are older. Well they will have a unique name then. It doesn’t sound right on an old lady because we are so used to rough the same names used from back in the day. For example my mums era everyone is either. Tracy, Sharon, Debbie or Karen. We get used to what we hear. And for the record just asked for suggestions for the middle name not how you hate the actual name.

Sounds like Emily but with a speech impediment

terrible. poor kid.

I think it sounds more like a boys name. A male family member the Welsh name Emrys as a middle name. It's quite similar to that.

Oh I've not actually given any suggestions of middle names... I agree a one syllable name would be good. Although I also liked the suggestion of Summer.

Emery is relatively popular in the US, ranking at #130 in 2016.

It does remind me of emery boards, but if you're in the US, this is unlikely to be an issue given its popularity.

There's a lovely Arts and Crafts house in London called Emery Walker House. Emery Walker was a man. Just sayin'.

babigailwabble · 11/01/2018 10:58

Emery is ok I suppose. Emory is so ugly!

babigailwabble · 11/01/2018 10:59

When I said it out loud it just sounded like someone with a speech impediment talking to Emily

I Think there's a difference between discouraging someone from choosing an unusual name and discouraging them from choosing something made up or downright silly

Baubletrouble43 · 11/01/2018 13:42

I think it's Emery
emery Rose
Emery Alice
emery Kay
emery lois
