Are these names too 80/90's?

We're TTC and I know it's jumping the gun a bit but I can't stop thinking about Baby Names!
I've compiled a list of names I love with loads for girls. Most of which include names of my generation.
I love:
Natalie
Keira
Lauren
Georgina
Abbey
Megan
Ashleigh

The problem is, I don't want her to have an outdated, old fashioned name. I went to school with a Theresa and a Lesley and they were seen as a bit uncool, which was problem nothing to do with their names but as it's the first thing people know/hear about you I don't want people to think she's a bit of a fuddy duddy.

What do you think? Would you name your baby any of those names?

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 08/01/2018 16:44

Sorry wouldn't personally use any!! Do like Natalia instead of Natalie though!!

Capelin · 08/01/2018 16:44

Some of these are definitely current - I know babies called Georgina, Abby and Megan. My favourite on your list is Abby!

Faintlinesquints · 08/01/2018 16:45

Definitely don't think they're too 90s.
I have a Megan and always get compliments on her name.
At dds school there are actually quite a few Lauren's and Abbeys, none of your names sound out of date at all, i know a baby Keira too.

I really like Natalie, I think that's my favourite from your list (besides Megan of course Grin)

Enidblyton1 · 08/01/2018 16:49

No, I think those names are all fine. I know a 5 year old Lauren and everyone comments how much they like the name.
Georgina is my favourite from your list - a fairly timeless name imo.

BrokenBattleDroid · 08/01/2018 16:51

I like them all except Ashleigh. The spelling there (leigh) does feel a bit 'of that era' to me, but that's not a particularly terrible thing. Love Ash as a shorteblning though.

Names trends seem to be moving so fast that I wouldn't worry so much about seeming dated. 90's names will be majorly in vogue in about 5 years at this rate I reckon Smile

AppyForts · 08/01/2018 16:53

They are quite 80s/90s...but if you like them, so what?

I really like Keira, although prefer the Irish spelling of Ciara.

SummerRoberts · 08/01/2018 16:53

My name, my best friend's name and three other girls from my year at school are in your list. We were born in the late 80's/early 90's.

scrabbler3 · 08/01/2018 16:59

The only one that looks dated to me is Ashleigh. Possibly Natalie. I wouldn't let it put me off though. What would put me off is the shortening of (lovely) Natalie to Nat.

ladystarkers · 08/01/2018 17:00

Not at all. Love Gg and Natalie. Have you considered Gemma?

lottiegarbanzo · 08/01/2018 17:04

Abby is fine and Lauren seems like a new classic to me, though it became popular in the 80s.

Natalie does seem dated to me - baby of 70s to 80s.

Megan, though sort of classic, feels dated too.

Ashleigh just seems like a temporary fashion that won't last.

lottiegarbanzo · 08/01/2018 17:11

I really like Keira. I know it became fashionable after K Knightly became famous but, it is lovely and I think will become well used over a long time.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 08/01/2018 17:17

Those names are fine!
Lauren & Megan were on our shortlist Smile

PemberleyP · 08/01/2018 17:19

I think they’re all fine. Ashleigh would be my least favourite/the most surprising to hear on a baby born now, it does feel a bit dated because of the spelling. Megan is my favourite.

MikeUniformMike · 08/01/2018 17:21

Natalie - Like Na'erly off EastEnders
Keira - no.
Lauren - ok
Georgina - ok
Abbey - ok
Megan - dated
Ashleigh - Dated and naff

IVflytrap · 08/01/2018 17:21

I like Natalie, and find it sweet and not particularly dated. Also like Lauren, Megan and Ashley (but with that spelling, even for a girl.) Again, none of those are massively dated to me, not in the way that Kelly or Gemma scream 80s, for example.

Keira is OK. Not fond of Georgina, but I don't really like any of the George-type names for girls. Abbie or Abi, both short for Abigail is a classic in my opinion, and I know a few younger ones. I don't like the Abbey spelling as much.

I would find all these names refreshing in the face of the tide of Ava-Eva-Evie-Ivy-Islas (which are names that I find pretty and like a lot. Just not on every little girl.)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/01/2018 17:23

From your list, I like Georgina the best, followed by Megan.
I love Abigail, with Abby for a shortening.

ParanoidGynodroid · 08/01/2018 20:44

Don't use the spelling "Abbey" - that's a big church.
My Dd's friend goes by Abi.
I like Georgina best from your list, especially if nn Georgie!

SuperBeagle · 08/01/2018 21:15

The only ones which are really outdated, IMO, are Natalia, Megan and Ashleigh. Ashleigh is the worst of the bunch.

I wouldn't look twice at a baby Keira, Lauren, Georgina or Abbey. I know young children with some of those names.

mondler · 08/01/2018 21:17

thinking of baby names early is a good thing! I love Lauren. Also like Megan and Abbey.

Petalflowers · 08/01/2018 21:18

The names are fine, although I would have Abbey has a nn for Abigail.

I know a 9year old Lauren and a 19 year old Lauren, so I don’t think of it a s an 80s /90s name,

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 08/01/2018 21:21

Ashleigh is very 80s/90s
Abigail is lovely and can be shortened to Abi/Abbie but I don't like Abbey
Laura is more classic/timeless than Lauren IMO
Georgina, Megan, Natalie all perfectly acceptable and have been used over a long enough period not to be associated with a single decade

DramaAlpaca · 08/01/2018 21:22

I'd possibly use Georgina or Natalie because I like them.

I wouldn't consider the others because I'm not keen on them, but not because they are dated.

The main thing is to choose a name you love.

NaughtyNoraTheNamechanger · 08/01/2018 21:28

I actually really like them all (including Ashleigh). I know many, many people with those names (various spellings of Abby and Ashleigh though).

Threeandabit · 09/01/2018 17:23

I like Megan and Abby (that spelling best). I wonder if Meghan Markle will increase its popularity though.

mumgointhroughtorture · 09/01/2018 17:32

My best friend has a nearly 4 year old called Lauren . It's a nice name . I like them all . Not as dated as some names . Abigail is especially quite popular .
