Too close to family name?

We're between two names for our DS due April.

Benjamin Peter
Or
Rowan Peter

Personally, I love Rowan- slightly unusual but strong and have always had a penchant for unusual names.

However, a very close relative is Rowena- is it too close?

I like Benjamin as a full name and think it works beautifully with Peter but find Ben a bit dull. We'd use Benji when he was little but inevitably he'd end up being Ben.

What are your thoughts?

I think Rowan and Rowena is ok not too close in pronunciation.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/01/2018 20:00

I like Benjamn Peter the best, but don't dislike Rowan Peter.

SuperBeagle · 03/01/2018 20:06

I love Benjamin Peter.

Rowan and Rowena are fine though.

If the relative is your baby's sister then too close.
If a first cousin of similar age (e.g. under 10) then too close.
Otherwise fine.

I can't really see a problem (unless it was your baby's sibling!).

Maybe Ronan or Roman- similar and also strong!

brexitschmexit · 03/01/2018 20:37

You could also spell it Rohan to make it slightly more different.....?

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 03/01/2018 20:38

I have a Roan.

Thisisanoutrage · 03/01/2018 20:49

I have a DS called Rowan and a much older relative called Rowena. I nearly discounted it for that reason for a while but Rowan was my favourite name so I went with it in the end. Choose the one you like the most or you’ll regret it.

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 03/01/2018 21:19

Rowan Peter is lovely.

It's fine imo :) (if she isn't his sister)

albazavi · 03/01/2018 21:41

Thanks- it's such a hard decision, luckily have a few more months to dwell it over. DH happy with either.

Sibling isn't Rowena and not same generation - it's his aunt, which is fairly close. Thanks for the reassurances.

Aunt is fine.

Just tell her you've named him after her. She'll be delighted and he'll be her favourite nephew for ever. Smile

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 04/01/2018 00:03

Aunt is fine!

She might even feel flattered :)

DramaAlpaca · 04/01/2018 02:06

I always say go for the name you love. Rowan is fine with an Aunt called Rowena, not too similar at all.
