Meaningful name for stillborn baby

Sorry about a depressing thread in what should be a joyous topic.
I am 17 weeks pregnant and my baby will not make it to birth. My only hope is that he/she will make it to 22 weeks, which would give him or her the right to have a birth certificate here in France.
DH does not really want to talk about it.

For a girl, I like Evangeline (bearer of good news) and Theodora (gift from God).
I like Joseph for a boy.

No name has struck me so far as "the" name - it all seems too early but we will have to make a choice soon.

I’m so sorry for what your going through. My son was stillborn at 21 weeks and didn’t get a birth certificate as it was before 24 weeks (in UK) so I understand why this is so important.

You will know when you find the right name and in fact it was an MN thread that pointed me to Jovan.

Jovan means different things in different languages including ‘youth’ (he’ll be forever young), ‘father of the sky’ (always looking down on us) and son of John (linked to a family name).

I also liked Matthew ‘gift from god’ but had a nephew with that name.

I'm so sorry. I like Remembrance for a boy or Treasure for a girl but I don't know if the French registry office will accept those names. I like Theodora and Joseph too, they are both classic names xxx

Are you religious at all? Tabitha is the name of the only woman in the bible to be resurrected. Flowers

I am sorry you are Going through this difficult time. We found out at DS2's 20 week scan that his congenital heart condition was probably incompatible with life. I got to 27 weeks and he died in my arms a few hours after being born.

We called him the name we would have given if he had survived. Alexander Louis. Our surname begins with F. nn Alfie. It is on his headstone. He would be 20 now. One does come to terms with it but I k ow how it hurts.

You will know. I am so sorry Flowers

I new my baby girl wasn’t alive before I gave birth to her early. We had loads of names of who she’d be, but as soon as I held her in my arms she was Romany Mairead. The name will come to you. No matter how great the sadness you will smile again, sending my love xx

Some really beautiful names here. I'm not religious at all but have just shed a tear at the meaning of Jeremiah.

I'm so so sorry that you have to go through this OP. Wishing you strength.

How about Yvaine - the name of the star in Stardust by Neil Gaiman. So sorry that your baby won't make it.

Sorry to hear this, OP.

I also thought of Hope. Stella is another name that means star.

Have you thought of Nevan? Nevan (Irish Gaelic Naomhán, pronounced [ˈnævæn]) meaning "saintly" was a minor saint in Irish folklore. It means holy, little holy one or little saint, or follower of the saint. In Gaelic it is pronounced as NAO-vahn. In English it is commonly pronounced as "Nevin," but should be pronounced as Neven/NEH-vahn.

Thank you for all the lovely suggestions.
I have just come back from the hospital. The consultant could not find a heartbeat. Apparently the baby has been gone for a while and it will not be possible to tell the sex, not even with a DNA test.
I will either hyphenate a boy's and a girl's name or choose one of the more neutral names.
Thanks again.

OP I'm very sorry to hear that.

One genuinely unisex name which springs to mind is Rowan - which is beautiful.

Best wishes with choosing a name, I am sure you will choose something perfect for your baby. x
