Have shortened our list to these two.

DC2 will be here in less than four weeks, dh and I have strong, differing opinions on baby names, and these two are really it. If you hate both, of course it’s fine to say so if you like, but I will have to ignore you Grin!

Many tia for opinions.

I like Vincent in theory, but I just can't imagine calling a child 'Vincent' all his life, which leaves Vince or Vinnie, both of which are slightly different shades of silly. So, Marcus.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 29/12/2017 12:24

I love Vinnie, but it does have a prohibition-era gangster ring to it to me... Also Vinnie Jones makes me think of Guy Ritchie films, which are also gangster movies. So I do understand why people might think that.

Vincent is different; Van Gogh, don Maclean, Vincent clerc (swoon). More of a French feel for sure, which would go nicely with dd’s name.

I really like Marcus and really don't like Vincent. I'll try and explain my dislike: I don't like the fact that when pronounced with a French accent, so as van-sonn, it is 20-100 or wine-100 in French. Also Vinnie reminds me of gangsters and Vince is a misogynist I have the displeasure of knowing. So personal association is probably putting me off a bit. Marcus is great though.

DappledThings · 29/12/2017 13:47

Marcus, but biased as I have one!

mondler · 29/12/2017 16:47

I LOVE the name Marcus, it's on my list! I haven't met any for years. I'm not a fan of Vincent, not sure why, but I know 3 little ones all under 4 so it must be vaguely popular.

MikeUniformMike · 29/12/2017 16:52

I like Marcus and dislike Vincent. Vincent as a surname is fine but as a first name is not. Vince is just awful and Vinnie makes me think of Vinnie Jones.

MikeUniformMike · 29/12/2017 16:54

Vince makes me wince. Marcus makes me think of Marcus Gilbert the acor. ooh!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 29/12/2017 17:03

Love both names- and both on my list! Can I ask what other names you were thinking of as we may have similar taste. Sadly Dh has vetoed both so back to square one for me. Good luck!

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 29/12/2017 21:57
