Victoria 'Plum'

I wondered what you all thought of the name Plum, as a nickname for Victoria. Have you met anyone with this unusual name before? I recently met someone with this nickname, and I think is the first time I have heard of it! It struck me as quite odd at first, but she is very sweet and can pull it off. So I was wondering whether this nickname was more common than I think, and your thoughts on it.

We call my niece Plum, she’s not a Victoria though, we’re not posh and it’s not an ‘official’ nickname so much as a pet name that just kind of appeared. It’s cute.

Very outing but my mother is a Victoria and her grandparent name which DD calls her is Plum...

meanapparently · 27/12/2017 23:04

I'm a Victoria. I am called Vicky. By everyone, always. I think my parents tried to raise me as a Tori, when I was a teenager I tried to get people to call me Vita.. Nope, back to Vicky. No matter what you call her, she will be Vicky. Nowadays I try to go more with Victoria, as I've never liked Vicky. I wouldn't recommend it.

Isn't it spelt Plumb?

😄😂

I feel so old. 😧

I know three people called Plum (with Victoria on birth certificate). They are all upper middle class/public school. Two of them were born in the late 70s - possibly named after the book character? The other is in her 60s.

Battleax · 27/12/2017 23:17

Ah. I still feel old that the fairy character has to be explained Grin

MikeUniformMike · 27/12/2017 23:18

Victoria known as Plum is fine, but Charlotte known as Spud or Apple is better.

Me too Battleaxe The character was my first thought. I think I might even have had a Victoria Plum pillowcase.

Am shocked by how dated the book images look now! surely it wasn't that long ago Grin

Ojoj1974 · 27/12/2017 23:24

I have two friends with the nn Plum, it's gorgeous x

Subla2401 · 27/12/2017 23:26

I know someone called Victoria, whose Dad used to call her Victoria plum when she was little.

MakeLemonade · 27/12/2017 23:29

I know a Plum (Victoria is almost never used, Plum is even on her work email) - I think it’s lovely. She pulls it off well as she’s young, pretty and v.posh.

GreyMorning · 27/12/2017 23:31

I know a Plum too

SylvesterMcM0nkeyMcBean · 27/12/2017 23:36

mikeuniformmike I’m called Plum, and I went to school with Charlotte/spud!

Lindy2 · 27/12/2017 23:39

I remember Victoria Plum. I always wanted one of those dolls.
Round here though "plums" is a nickname for a man's balls so it would put me off using it as a nickname for a person.

MikeUniformMike · 27/12/2017 23:44

I like Plum as a nn, Lindy2.
Spud is cute.
Claude could be Reine.
Stella - Cherry
Marie- Biscuit

Wasn't there a Sarah-something doll in the 70s or 80s?

MikeUniformMike · 27/12/2017 23:45

Duncan Biscuit too.

oneoldmare · 27/12/2017 23:50

I am a Victoria Plum. Plum is nickname only by certain members of my family. I don't mind it.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/12/2017 03:06

Sugar plum.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/12/2017 03:08

Victoria Plum was then reason I wanted to be called Victoria

nooka · 28/12/2017 03:13

I think I'd do a bit of a double take if I met a woman/girl known as Plum as while of course plums are a fruit and I have eaten lots of Victoria plums it's really not the first association I'd make - I'm afraid I'd think of testicles and possibly giggle a bit.

WatercolourFlower · 28/12/2017 07:50

So the main connotations are a cute storybook character, a bathroom company and testicles! Wow I am really surprised how many of you know a Victoria Plum.

ColonelJackONeil · 28/12/2017 08:28

Someone above mentioned sugar plum. We used to get called sugar plum or sugar plum fairy by my Granny as an endearment sometimes, so I think that association is another reason why plum might seem a nice nickname for a little girl.

UsernameInvalid66 · 28/12/2017 12:40

I know someone who uses the nickname Plum because her surname begins with Duff!
