Stevie??

We are expecting our first DD next month and DP wants to call her Stevie. It's certainly not what I would choose, but it's the only name he seems to like. He is extremely fussy when it comes to names and won't consider any of the names I have chosen, even for a middle name.

Is Stevie really awful? And what middle names would suit it?

Stevie is a 20/25 year outdated attempt at cool. It was bad enough in the 90's - I wouldn't use it now

Zaya71 · 24/12/2017 22:32

Unfortunately I have to agree with the chavvy association. In my area at least (West Yorkshire). I really like Stephanie though so it works OK as a nn.

undertheradarplease · 24/12/2017 22:47

I love it! It was one of our top two names when we had our dd. We had Frieda, Agnes and Norah as middle name choices. Hope that helps.

AccrualIntentions · 24/12/2017 22:50

I really like it, Stevie Nicks plus I know an adult Stevie. DH absolutely loathed the suggestion though.

DaisysStew · 24/12/2017 22:50

I love the name Stevie, but really don't like Stephanie.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 25/12/2017 11:32

I’d definitely put Stephanie on the BC. I like stevie as a shortening, but I wouldn’t like it on my own BC, so probably wouldn’t name a baby that.

Re middle names, how about one of these?

Stephanie (Stevie) Jane
Stephanie (Stevie) Hope
Stephanie (Stevie) Blythe
Stephanie (Stevie) Charlotte
Stephanie (Stevie) Louise
Stephanie (Stevie) Rachel
Stephanie (Stevie) Clara
Stephanie (Stevie) Tabitha
Stephanie (Stevie) Harriet

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 25/12/2017 11:32

I also like Stefania

Stephanie on a child born in modern times would be quite unusual and interesting. Stevie works as a nickname but I wouldn't put it on the birth certificate myself.

Joeybee · 25/12/2017 22:10

Well he needs to be a bit more considerate to your wishes too and work together with you to come up with a name. Don't settle for a name you don't like just to appease him. Be as fussy as he is! Plus Stevie is not a great name, it's a nickname really, and more like something you'd name a pet.

OliviaStabler · 25/12/2017 22:17

Stevie is a boys name.

DotCottonDotCom · 25/12/2017 23:25

Stevie is a boys name
I need to let my female student Stevie know this

cakeymccakington · 25/12/2017 23:27

I know a little girl Stevie and the name really suits her!

Tell Stevie Nicks it's a boys name ;-)

BertrandRussell · 26/12/2017 00:10

It's a boy's name that is sometimes used for girls-usually as a sort form. You could call a girl Edward-it would still be a boy's name.

scrabbler3 · 26/12/2017 00:22

There is a female Stevie in Madam Secretary. Her given name is Stephanie. I like it. Would definitely put Stephanie on the birth certificate.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 26/12/2017 08:28

Stevie Nicks exactly! I bet she’s not Stevie on her bc though.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 26/12/2017 08:29

I just checked (weirdo Grin). She’s Stephanie! Cool namesake imo.

Shmithecat · 26/12/2017 08:31

I know a 19yo girl called Stevie. She's smart, Very kind and incredibly beautiful so I have nothing but nice thoughts about the name. Go for it, It's lovely.

AmethystRaven · 26/12/2017 08:34

I wanted to call DD Stevie because of the Kasabian song. We couldn't really though because of a couple of male Steves in the family. Shame as it would have suited her!

Starryskiesinthesky · 26/12/2017 08:51

I think its awful and dont get why he is dictating name choices.

MikeUniformMike · 26/12/2017 17:01

I know of 2 female Stevies, neither of them Stephanie on bc.

Brandnewstart · 26/12/2017 17:06

I love it for a girl. Quirky but easy to spell, pronounce etc.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 26/12/2017 17:08

I know a female Stevie who is ‘just’ Stevie. It doesn’t mean I like it though!

NeilPetark · 27/12/2017 23:32

Why does your dh get the only say in names?

dotdotdotmustdash · 29/12/2017 00:44

Is your baby getting Dp's surname? If so, you should get to chose her first name. Only fair.
