I'm stuck. I love them both for a girl. Just a bit of fun really but would love to hear what other Mumsnetters think!? Grin

Iris is pretty.

Mxyzptlk · 20/12/2017 15:09

I think Iris is pretty, like the flower, while Ivy is an old lady's name.

CocoLoco87 · 20/12/2017 15:25

Love Ivy - fab name. Not keen on Iris. Reminds me of Isis.

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/12/2017 15:39

I prefer Iris it has a lovely vintagy feel and I've not met one yet.

I do like Ivy but it seems a bit more 'current' and faddy plus I know a few

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 20/12/2017 15:43

Ivy Tildsley. Which probably won't mean anything to a lot of you but she was the poisonous MIL of Gail many years ago and for that reason alone has always put me off the name.

Doubletrouble42 · 20/12/2017 15:46

My niece is Iris and my cousins dd is ivy. Both beautiful names x

Postsynapticdensity · 20/12/2017 17:17

Iris

TatianaLarina · 20/12/2017 17:41

Iris by far. Lovely name, lovely flower. No-one really loves Ivy and I don’t like the poison link.

ohhelpohnoitsa · 20/12/2017 18:02

Iris. For sure.

Evelynismyspyname · 20/12/2017 18:08

I don't like Iris - as someone else mentioned it feels too recent to be classic, and is more a contemporary of Maureen, Mavis and Pam in their 60s and 70s than a name coming back around having last popular a century ago.

CaptainChristmas · 20/12/2017 20:41

I prefer Iris

AtSea1979 · 20/12/2017 20:42

Hate them both! Sorry can't please everyone

mum2be2boys · 21/12/2017 07:15

I like them both. I prefer Iris as I like that it means rainbow.

Footle · 21/12/2017 08:37

Iris isn't a recent arrival at all!

sinceyouask · 21/12/2017 08:38

Ivy. I'm biased as it was my Nana's name, but I do think it's lovely.

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 21/12/2017 08:42

Iris. Ivy is stratospherically popular, top 50 and climbing. Iris is also on the way up but not in Ivy's league.

HuskyMcClusky · 21/12/2017 08:46

Ivy.

Love both, but I’ve loved Ivy forever.

Seacow87 · 21/12/2017 08:46

I had an Ivy and it suits her to a tee. She seems to be an old lady in a kids body hehe.... Iris is beautiful too.

WowserBowser · 21/12/2017 08:48

Iris - by miles

Evelynismyspyname · 21/12/2017 08:56

Foot I don't mean recently invented, I mean it's been in common use too recently. There are lots of Irises in their 60s, whereas Ivy hasn't been as popular as Iris was in the 1950s since the late 19th century.
